Yes, I know, he's a controversial musician, so let's set that aside for a sec...

He was one of my early influences and a reason I play stratocasters - I remember seeing the VHS of Trial by Fire: Live in Leningrad and being blown away with his speed and technique.

Anyways , we were in Miami, (wife and teenage daughter wanted to shop,) and to throw me a bone they let me stop in a combo vintage guitar/classic car shop.

    Video below tells the rest:

One thing that surprised me was how easy the guitars played, especially compared to production models I've played previously - I had always heard that his action was wicked high, but it was really quite comfortable.

His vibrato and bends are definitely tied to the light strings and scalloped board - I didn't even try to sound like Yngwie and was getting crazy wide bends and vibrato.

The best playing of the bunch were the first one I tried, which had a much thicker neck than usual, and the gold 60's model, which played amazingly but had a busted input jack.

The Duck had the shallowest scallops of the lot - a little harder to play, but dripping with mojo.

Very cool day for you! Thanks for sharing that experience and all them pitchas! It's really great to play something our big influences used.

When I was 17 and Great Southern was at a local college outside under a tent Mr. Betts let a few of us paw that white Les Paul he was using at the time. Bridge cables for strings, 1/4" up at the 12th, pickups down. I learned a lot from that 5 minutes of guitaring and him talking that has stayed with me my whole life.

About a week after getting my first guitar and not knowing who anyone was, my sister got me Trilogy on cassette. I am very jealous - congratulations!

If you stand behind an IKEA during a full moon with a bag full of big mac's Yngwie will appear and let you play his guitar.

What a cool experience! My buddy has a Blackmore strat and the scalloping is really neat to play.

Man, how freakin cool! I've always dug Yngwie, but I've never really been a fan of scalloped boards myself. Then again, I've never actually touched any of Yngwie's personal Strats so that might change my ways lol.

Congrats on what had to be super fun! (sweet riffs btw) :)

Looks like a great experience! So much guitar center vibes though - you sound great shredding on a high end instrument and in the background is some guy clunking out his best attempt at a power chord.:whistling:

    How cool is that!

Not what you call a Yngwie fan but I do like the guy's "I don't give a **** if you like me or not" attitude. He should be in the RnR Hall of Fame just for being a true rock n roller 24/7.

Actually, they stuck it out in the shop with me - glad they did, as it was my wife that took all the pics and video.
She knows what a big Yngwie fan I am, so when she realized what was going down she started filming...
