I had to laugh when I looked at the Stratocaster listings on eBay. Someone is selling a Tom Delonge Strat, MIM, with a starting price of $1499 with gigbag. Am I the one out of touch with reality? Did this guitar actually accompany Mr Delonge onto the alien spacecraft? Obviously nobody has placed a bid on it. Anybody remember what these went for new? IIRC it was around 5 or 6 hundred bucks. Is there any MIM Strat that is worth 1,5K? Seller is in Pennsylvania. Anybody else seen any ridiculously priced guitars lately on reverb or eBay? CL/Facebook?

It's the same on Reverb too. From what I remember, without doing a google search because I'm too lazy, but I think they were around $600. Didnt it have 1 humbucker and large headstock?

I just did a quick google search and there is an "Artist Series" of his guitar. Maybe the seller thinks that's what he has? I'll give him the benefit of the doubt....:p

Wow over the last year prices have doubled, almost tripled in some cases. One guy even paid 2k for one according to reverb. That’s nuts. Prices seem to have soared. I wonder if people are spending their stimulus checks on these. That’s just nuts for an MIM Fender.

The reason people ask such inflated prices, is because there is always gonna be someone out there that will pay it if you (as the seller) have time. I have a boss like that...he grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth; and if he or his wife wants something, he buys it PERIOD.

Why down someone for naming their price?
One either buys it or not. No obligation.

Tom DeLonge's okay (not a Blink-182 fan by any stretch), and whatever about his UFO/alien beliefs and whatnot, but I really like the necks on the MIM Delonge Strats -- nice C profile, big frets, fat headstock, and overall excellent quality (at least with all that I've come across). I actually owe 2 TD necks - both are simply beautiful Fender necks w/ flamey-grain maple and dark rosewood boards.

But yeah, I don't understand how what's basically a hardtail, 1HB MIM Strat sells for those prices. [IMG]

I found an odd one recently: a red Squier Strat on eBay, which was up for £385, despite clearly being a low end model. I tried searching for the serial no. in Fender's database, but it didn't come up, despite being a 2019 number. A bit of research revealed that it wasn't a Bullet (wrong headstock logo), wasn't an Affinity (wrong size headstock), and didn't match the specs of anything else on Squier's website. Very fishy... It actually sold too!

There's an awful lot of over-priced stuff online these days. I'm quite an eBay addict and have searched for various guitars (AVRIs/JVs/Anything US/MIJ and interesting) daily for 12/15 years. What is noticeable is that as eBay became more of a vehicle for 'traders' (ie - people buying guitars on eBay/privately, sticking hundreds of pounds on the price and re-advertising) then prices started to hike. It's easy to see why, folk see that one person is trying to sell a US Standard Strat for £1100-£1200 so lots of people decide to give it a go. Or that if they're asking £1100, then I'll ask £950 - looks like a bargain. The 'professional sellers don't care how long things take to sell and know that eventually someone will fall for the flashy pictures and sales blather and buy it in the belief they're getting something superior. The end result though is that eBay (and Reverb is worse) is just full of the same overpriced guitars hanging around for months and months(and years in some cases).

Tom Morello MIM retails for $1299. It has a to-be-rolled fretboard/fret end edges like any MIM brand new. I hope it sells because I really like Tom's sounds, but for this price I might as well save up for better guitars

Reverb price guides can be tricky. I had an Epi Casino "Inspired by" John Lennon series. It was easily confused with either a bone stock Casino or the very expensive US made John Lennon Casino. Because of that, it skewed the info on the Reverb price guide quite heavily. At one point I took it to GC just to get an offer on it because selling it locally wasn't going well. I can't remember what they offered, but it was crap. Basically in line with a clean base model at 60 percent of used.

Anyway, the dude might think he has the higher priced version and doesn't realize what his goes for. Happens all the time.

The manufacturers don't help with all their confusing models and names. Easy for people to get confused, easy for scammers to claim innocent confusion.
