So...tonight i hard tailed my strat. I did it to my old Fenix strat..my 1st guitar which i use to practice stuff on.

I didn't use a wooden block of any kind...just screwed the claws in so the trem was flat against the body...adjusted the string height a tad....seems ok.

Anyone else hard tailed their guitar and not used a wooden block?

I’ve never blocked a trem. Only decked them like you did.

I did it to my 1980 Tokai SS-36.It now stays in tune very good for an entry level 70's Strat copy

I used a piece of oak that i got at work from the scrap flooring.... I had to cut it to size.

All my strats are just decked using the claw, tightened so it just starts to move on a double step bend

I use pennies or nickels wrapped with scotch tape, about 3 bundles spaced behind the block. That makes the block about an inch thick, more metal is good.

Four of my five Strats are decked. I’ll probably get around to decking the last one soon, as well. I just added two more springs to each. I didn’t mess with the claw, or add a block.

    .
Here is one of mine, a relic partsguesser.
A huge hard maple block behind the trem and no springs to chime their springy sound.
Humbucker through volume knob straight to the output jack. It's a tone monster.

How did you get the sixth spring on there?

Decked, added 2 springs. I didn’t screw in the claw, if I ever want to use the trem again, then I will remove the 2 added springs and I shouldn’t need to adjust the claw [emoji106]

Then I had the backplate hole widened, so the strings line up probably, I cringe at the sight of a strat without one..........I guess I’m not hardcore View attachment 267326

I've decked the trems on my Strats using just the springs for the last 40 years.
