I hate hurricanes

Most of our wildfires haven't been arson, actually. There have been a few, and a few that were set by careless humans, but a couple of years ago most of them were set by overhead lines blown down by winds, etc.

The joke is that SoCal's four seasons are fire, flood, earthquake and drought.

A few of us were planning a hike a few days after a good rain, and were standing outside the ranger station waiting for permits. The ranger was admonishing us to stay on the trails when we all heard a huge rumble and glanced over to see an entire hillside sliding into a valley, trees and all. "Is that where the trail we were going to hike went through?" "Yup" said the ranger as he closed the park for the day.

AZ wildfires are about 50/50 human stupidity and natural. Rarely arson.

The joke in New England was that Maine had two seasons: Summer, and Mud.

The back side of this storm is moving through now. Winds gusting to 40+, not much rain yet. Local radar shows an eye wall trying to form. This thing still has some hurricane juju left

Blowing strong and raining hard here. A fence is down so I have to keep the dogs away.
Son is in hospital after falling, daughter in law with him, I've got vertigo and my wife has a knee brace after falling backwards off a dock.
Worst holiday ever!!
But when you get back home, you will able to regale your friends about one of the bigger hurricanes to come through here. That, and a t-shirt from Ron Jons 🤪

Just finished battening down the hatches, getting everything off the porch, taking down the bird-feeders, wind chimes. Looks like Ian will landfall a second time just south of us, likely a Cat 1.

Gonna rain buckets, high winds, etc. Hope the new sod doesn't blow away!

Good luck. Ian is a nasty boy. Assume power will be lost for a few days and figure out how you will live (water, cooking, toilets, etc).

I think that, as it moves off land and back to sea, it will pick up again. Just in time to mail the Carolinas.

Upside, there was $ 12.5 million to rebuild it in 2023 as a concrete pier, provided every day would be the same ho-hum routine. I don't see much point in rebuilding it in the moment. They just got done with the dune restoration from 2016 & 2017 Hurricanes that wiped out A1A. There's a certain point where anyone just has to say this is throwing good money into the ocean.

At least they’ll save costs on the tear-down.
