Make a vow that you will only buy tube amps that cost a grand or more. Then you will be coming home with a new amp less often. Also, donating some of the amps to a non profit group that helps kids get music education will get you a tax write off in the amount that the amps cost you may be a way to deal with it. I don't know how many amps you have at present, but it's form of G.A.S. for sure.

So how many have you collected?

    Uh, I’m Miotch ..
    “Hi Miotch”
    Uh, and I’m an Ampliholic.
I ignored it for years and managed to hold onto job and a family. But, the problem seemed to grow. At first, I’d grab a 10 watter after work. Before long, I’d avoid my co-workers at lunch and run up the the pawnshop to score a 15-watter or two. Before I knew it, I was scoping out old TV repair shops for broken or abandoned practice amps on shelves in back. If I saw a Kay or Silvertone, I’d start Jonesin. I would literally start shaking and sweating ..

Oh man, only five amps. Your just an occasional, recreational amp buyer. That's like having a little wine or beer with the evening meal. I think your prognosis is good. I was expecting you to say like 20 or something. As far as G.A.S. goes, that's an occasional fart. I think your gonna live. No treatment necessary.

I know a guy that lives up in Washington that has 30 guitars and 14 or 15 half stacks. They are all Diesel, Marshall, Mesa, Bogner, Soldano, etc. All with the appropriate matching cabinets. Most of his guitars are signature models as well. Now that's an individual that's afflicted.

If you really wanna stop, I recommend finding a boutique amp that you really like and taking that home. It's the cure. You won't want to play the practice amps anymore. Of course it could go the other way too. You could become a tone tweaker like my friend in washington lol:thumb:

I have to say I know there is a lot of negative reviews of the Marshall mg series but with a bridge humbucker and the gain around 8 and the volume cranked it sounds pretty bad ass.

    .

Get a couple of ABY pedals so you can gang these amps together into a super-computer-amp to take over the local gig scene and then you'll have something -- probably the antagonist for a James Bond film.

Of course ... you are not quite at fifteen yet.

"...some obscure practice amp for cheap." Ha, I just paid $5 at Goodwill for a Dynamite mini amp that, unfortunately, doesn't work. Or at least, not with the AC adaptor I have.

I'd say clear out the junky stuff and focus on quality, low watt practice amps, like a vintage Champ or a Gibson Skylark. Those will run $450 to $850 so you won't be spending money willy nilly. Plus, you'll have to spend money on amp repairs and tubes, so you'll have less $ to acquire more stuff.

When you walk in your music room and are so disgusted by your musical gear hoarding that you can’t stand yourself. Then you will discover FB yard sales and CL.
