I shared this post with them, via both email and FB... it's been seen by many people, and lots of comments have been made on the behalf of this situation.

It's the volume pot that's easily off just like in this image, I've never seen a fender product that places the volume in that location, it's like an older ESP guitar. The reasoning behind that design is that unlike the originals you're supposedly less likely to hit it with your hand while strumming and it's easy for volume swells. The point is that fender has never had that location for the volume, usually the knob is almost touching the screw on the treble side of the bridge pickup.

Exactly, why not take it back and resell it for more if it's authentic?

This is the guard sitting on a correct newer fender guard.

You're wasting your efforts discussing this in a forum. None of us are in a position to do anything productive. Your only recourse is an expert.

Put Reverb and the forger...excuse me... alleged forger on notice that you suspect a deceptive or fraudulent listing, get the thing authenticated and be done with it.

True. We're probably only adding fuel to the wrong fire here sadly....:(

If you're able to edit your feedback to the seller, I'd suggest removing the link to this thread and just putting something like "currently under dispute."

You can't remove or edit unfortunately... If you read his response from the feedback, he's pretty much saying it's not original.

Contact your bank and have them dispute the claim. They will put your money back into your account in less than 24 hours.

Anyone who looks at the original listing and knows vintage AT ALL can tell you thats not a vintage 60 - 64 pickguard (as the add states). The fact they say 60 - 64 is suspect to begin with as its factually impossible. Please point me to any pre 63 with that hole pattern.

The cut, bevel and layer thickness are totally wrong. The aging is ridiculous. No yellow donut stains on the bottom, wrong color (bottom should be very close to original) ..... no wear or color difference under the vol and tone knobs .... this is a complete crock all the way around. I especially like the file job in the bottom 3 way slot, the "ager" was a real hack. Reverb is owned by Chicago Music Exchange. They buy/sell vintage all the time. Why cant they simply look at the pics?

I think in this case they simply looked at the seller's past activity and reviews? Apparently he sold a lot, has good feedback. He is "profitable".

You could ask yourself if the outcome would be the same if it was a new seller with no feedback.

Also, recently we've discussed on this forum some fraudulent listings with much higher prices, for which some of us contacted Reverb directly. The answer was pretty standard: "we (the Reverb team) can't be 100% sure that the listing is a forgery, so we can't do much about it".
I'm under the impression that they don't want to interfere as long it's not 100% sure and when you look at the answer with regards to the pickguard, stating it's handmade and can show variation, it is clear that this can be used for any vintage product being sold.
Apparently, for Reverb, it's the buyer that needs to do his homework.

As said before, the only thing that has a slight chance of being accepted is maybe an authentication by a respected source, and still...

Well reverb agreed to process the return, and they will be receiving instead of the seller. So reverb is stepping up and taking care of it, so they will continue to have my business. :thumb:

They are receiving the return, and going to give me a refund, what they do with it from there I don't know, but they are going to do an in house authentication, and I'm sure the seller will be held accountable.

The only reason they did I am willing to bet, is because people are talking. Those who say we should silence ourselves are wrong IMO. No one flew off the handle here, merely pointed out obvious things.

As for "expert" opinion. I would agree internet opinons can get wild but vintage "experts" ... there are maybe 5 of those alive today.

Huge congrats on (hopefully) getting this bad situation resolved. :thumb:

FWIW, I purchased a guitar through Reverb that was not as claimed. Reverb was excellent about the whole situation and even paid for the return shipping.
