Several years ago my family and I where eating in our local India restaurant which was, at that time, a twice weekly event. We knew all of the front house staff well and had visited their homes from time to time.

On one particular evening a Beatles tune was playing on the "tannoy" system. To my surprise one of the younger guys told me that George Harrison was playing guitar on the record. He was about 17 years old and went on to explain that he and his whole family remain devoted to the man who saved so many lives in his Country. He was, of course Bangladeshi .

Well...at MGM we were fighting with EMI about the original Bond master tapes for all of the Connery films. They said they didn't exist. Bob put me in touch with Geoff, and he got all of them to me. ;)

What I hear that sets George's melodic slide work apart from the typical - if very good - guitar blues slide style, is the influence of Indian music.

George may have stopped playing sitar a while ago, but he learned a lot in the process and it sets his playing apart from the average.

Years ago I used to sit with my toddler granddaughter on my lap.
She was fascinated by this George Harrison video.

He, and the rest of the crew, have been influence on me, especially the diversity of their sound (Revolver on).

I was fascinated by the video and I was much older than lap-sitting age! It was only recently that I felt compelled to look up the original tune. George made it his own but the original is killer too!

I'm a bit slow, but are you THE MR Parka from the film The Life of Pye? Or is that another Richard Parker? :D

I feel certain that almost all George Harrison fans will have seen "Concert for George" which, as you probably know, is a tribute to the man and his music. You just need to look at the participants who contributed to this great album, to realise how special the man was. We often use the word Genius to describe all sorts of talented people, but this was, and remains a tribute to a true genius.

I like hearing the really early Beatles stuff when they were still doing chuck berry covers. There's a tendency to think of Keith Richards as the master of the chuck tributes/imitators. But George did it just as well. Maybe better depending on your taste.

I really liked George's work with The Traveling Wilburys. I like Tom's quote that George would audition each of the singers to determine who would sing the lead for each song.
