My 10 year old son has been playing the viola for a year and a half and has been doing really well. His teacher asked him what song he wanted to work on and he chose I Shot the Sheriff from his "Classic Rock" viola book. He's heard me play it a bunch of times and I guess he liked it.

We came up with the idea of he and I doing a duet on viola and guitar for this at his upcoming recital. We have been practicing and we played it for his teacher last week. He gave us the thumbs up saying he had nothing to add...sounded good!

I thought I'd give him a taste of recording. I grabbed a drum track, recorded the acoustic rhythm guitar, and set him up with a mic to record a few takes. We sat and did the mix going through the best parts of each take.

So here it is. It is so much fun and fulfilling to make music with your kids [IMG].

Nice! I'd have stayed awake more at my kids recitals if they played this type of music :D

A big thumbs up to your son. :thumb:

Thanks you guys! I passed along what you guys said and he dismissed it all...but had a smile on his face he just couldn't hide :).

@Mouse...my wife really felt the same as you and liked the idea because it would be more enjoyable than the typical recital piece. As a bonus, I get to get up and play my guitar too :D.

Kids and music, I love it. My 9 yr old granddaughter has been playing the trumpet for two months and we just started working on a guitar trumpet duet, “Good King Wenceslas”

    Enjoy the recital
