I want a Gibson SG

If you want an SG, play a few and get one.
My first "good" Gibson was an SG style MelodyMaker back in 1970, which I traded in 1972.
I picked up the one below (2013 '61 Standard w/Maestro Vibrola) in 2019. I don't use the whammy bar much on it,
but the added weight helps the balance.
Suede backed strap and neck dive is non-existent.
Thin, light body is comfy and 57 Classic pickups are low output.
Sounds like a Tele on steroids.
Tuning stability is the best of any Gibson I've owned (this was my 5th Gibson).

Thank you for your opinion, but I disagree.

Oddly, Epiphone is the one that gets the early p90 pick up placement correct. Gibson has it wrong.
Yes, and I think there are several different versions of Gibson SG’s. Perhaps as many as there are versions of the neck heel?

There were many different SG neck heels over the years. I have a link somewhere that I will post later. In the early years they were changing it annually.

However, there are only two that seem to be in general use now. One is the early 1961 style with a very small heel and minimal body extension. The other is a later 60's style with a larger heel and a very tall body extension.

From what I've seen, and as a general rule, Epiphone always uses the small heel. However, they do vary neck thickness. The Epiphones with the small '61 style pickheard tend to have thinner necks. The ones with the 1966 style batwing pickguard tend to have slightly thicker necks. The thinnest Epi necks are the models that they officially call a 1961 reissue.

Gibson seems to offer both styles of necks and heels. They use a 1961 style small heel and a skinny neck on any 1961 reissue. Necks are thin. When Gibson has the larger bat wing big guard, like on their "Standard", they'll use the larger heel and thicker neck.

But, you always need to look and feel. Things vary.

I think so too. I was unclear in my post though. I meant that there has also been more than two different pickup placements over the years.

Yes. I also edited added quite a bit to my post after you quoted it concerning what's in use now.. I'll post those links a little bit later when I get to my laptop. You can see all the heels from over the years.

Wow, eight pages. I’ll read them later.

Seems like there’s another SG on it’s way later this week for me. A standard in cherry with the full pickguard. Tele out, SG in.

Here’s mine, and the Maybach:
