    Edit: if the pickups are already upgraded, play the Squire as is for a while. Start saving for big, snarly amp. Welcome to the forum, BTW.

    AND, if you decide to throw pedals in the mix, it changes the game as well.

    I recently purchased an amp that only does cleans (bc I could--not bc I needed it ((DV Mark Micro 60 Jazz))) and began addressing just playing in an articulate manner---ouch...a long way to go.

    I have a couple guitars with coil taps. Never use that on them. They never really have the same sound as a normal single coil pickup like a Tele or Strat. On one of them I replaced the split coil pots. Would on the other but being a semi-hollow I think I will leave them and just never use the coil split.
