Made a jig for file to bevel the edges of the frets.
    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

For final touch up, wrapped the file with 100gt sandpaper, then 320gt.

    image.jpeg

Finished with fine file to take burs off edge.

This afternoon I decided to work on the carving the neck profile.
Decided to use my thumb planes I had from my violin making tools.

    image.jpeg

    I have a 3/4", 1/2" & 1/4" planes.

    image.jpeg

Made some fire-starter for the wood stove.

I was aiming for a Fender Modern C profile. My son's 2013 MIM Strat was there for the profile measurements.

    image.jpeg

Once getting down close to the correct measurements & profile I used some heavy Emory cloth to round up & down the neck.

Finished it off with 100gt, then 320gt.

Now I think I'm ready for finishing.

I'm quite happy how it turned out.

By the way, the more I work with the wood, the more I'm convinced I have a Cherrywood guitar & neck, not an American Walnut. I think the person who brought me the wood from Wisconsin had it mixed up with walnut. Maybe the bark looks similar. Hard to tell on rough-sawn lumber. Looked like the dark walnut board I had, till they where planed.

    Oh well, still beautiful wood.

Yes, it is definately cherry rather than walnut. Cherry is one of my preferred for ease to work with.

Decided to work on the finishing last evening.
Applied dewaxed Dark Gernet shellac I had left over from the body.
    Put 1 coat of shellac.
Let dry, sanded smooth with 500gt.
Put a second coat of schellac.

Kinda looks like a roasted neck.

    Now for the poly.

Decided to put on the body just to see how it looks.

    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

Here is a pic with a factory Fender poly neck I had on it.
    image.jpeg

I like the colour of my new neck. Not so yellow/amber tint.

    I'm liking it. :)

Now take it off, & a few more coats of hand-rubbed poly.

Addicting. Hard to wait for the poly to cure for another before sanding & applying more. :(

    Well, another cold weekend.

Worked on fret levelling, crowning & polishing.

    image.jpeg

Taped up the fretboard, put 320 sticky-back sandpaper on a straight 2 foot level.

    image.jpeg

Marked tops of frets with Sharpie. Sanded just enough off so it touched the lowest fret.

    image.jpeg

    Now the crowning.

Bought a Wide/Medium fret crowning file.

    image.jpeg
Used the Wide side of the file to work with the Medium-Jumbo frets I installed.

Remarked the tops of the frets again, to see how much to take off the edges with crowning file. Filing just so there is a thin line on top.
Took about 8-10 light strokes of the file for each fret.

    image.jpeg

Here you can see the difference from a fret crowned & not.

    image.jpeg
    Right fret finished filing.

Then I laid 320gt sandpaper in the fret file to start sanding frets to get rid of file scratches.
    image.jpeg

Continued with 600gt & 800gt to all the frets.

Next I used 1000, 2000, & 4000gt foam backed sanding pads I rubbed by hand.
    image.jpeg

Then a buffing pad on the Dremel.

    image.jpeg

Final results turned out pretty nice.

Got the headstock decal in the mail Friday from Decal Jungle.

    Looks like a real guitar.

Now a few clear coats over. Then buff the whole neck.
