guy keeps semi priceless virtually impossible to replace items in plain sight and then drops the insurance.

not happy it happened but how could it not?

I recently had a discussion with my insurance company about a rider for my small collection. Your contents may be covered for replacement value, but please check your policy there is probably a deductible and there probably is a limit for musical instruments like $1000 or $5000 without a specific rider. You may be underinsured.

Bummer but....something just sounds fishy to me about all this. Maybe I've watched The Rockford Files too many times.

I agree. They can't tie in the people who have them now to the theft.
I think they bought them from Reverb!

I live 2 towns over and know the area well. I don't like even driving through the part of town he stored his collection in.

He infers that he's a rich touring musician yet he chooses to store a valuable guitar collection in the sketchy side of town and stops making insurance payments. They are PLENTY of safe and secured storage facilities in the area he could have picked.

How did the thieves know where to go?

What's a good way to get the heat off of ones self: Announce to the world that your valuable guitar collection has been stolen. The guitar community gets riled up because we hate thieves and he's a victim that no one is looking at. Except maybe the police.

"I stored my $500,000 Ferrari in a so so storage facility in the shady part of town and I stopped the insurance now it's gone! Someone stole it!" Doesn't make sense does it?

Maybe it's some sort of scam.

Maybe he's just a real live idiot.

    Or both.

My retired Army son worked as a locksmith on a couple of military bases while he was earning a teaching degree. Sometimes I would meet him for lunch and pick hip up at the locksmith shop. You would be amazed at how easy most locks are to compromise. As the old saying goes, "Locks protect you from honest people."

Unfortunately the thieves learn from it too.

Also, if he were a rich touring musician, he would have a big enough house to safely store those expensive instruments.
How many venues have you seen this guy play! I call BS..

    Yup.

    Mega valuable collection.

In a not very good storage facility according to the victim.

Stopped paying insurance but claims to be a successful name dropping touring musician.

    Hmmmmm I say.
