Alot of people making money off guitars. Buy in the here and now not for future investments. Buy used and way below market value.

Back in the early 1990s Mitch Mitchell auctioned off Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock Stratocaster. At the time the thought went through my mind that it might be a good idea to cash out our retirement accounts and use our savings to try to buy this guitar. I contemplated talking to my wife about the idea but figured that she wouldn't see the logic of spending everything we had on a guitar. It sold for about $250,000 give or take. Needless to say I didn't get it. Paul Allen later bought this same guitar from the guy who did buy it for a rumored $2 Million. It actually would have been a good investment.

But at least I'm still married.

My advice - invest your money in the stock market or real estate. Your life will be easier.

Here's what my fellow Lionel Train enthusiasts have to say when asked the "investment" question - Buy the trains purely for your own enjoyment, whether to operate or to display. Fuhgedaboudit the investment potential, there isn't any.

Same with guitars. Play them or hang them on the walls to pretty up your crib, doesn't matter. There's plenty of more sensible investments, many of which have already been mentioned here.

No one will play guitar in few decades. It takes time and effort. Hold on to your kids gaming console. It's gonna bring a big coin in 30 years

I don't really like money, a wad of notes gives me no pleasure at all.
It's what I can get with it that gives me enjoyment.
I look at a load of money and all I see is another guitar. :D

    I knew it!.. :D

Well.. there are worse things to spend your money on than guitars. I live alone too, divorced not widowed, but all my spare loot goes on renovating my old house in France, and refurbishing my liveaboard boat in YUK. I don't mind though because it keeps me out of mischief, and I have enough guitars to see me out.. ha ha..

Then you should get another guitar. I am all in favor of people doing whatever gives them pleasure as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. Enjoy - life is too short. But remember - never, not ever, not even if you have to sell your own blood to eat, ever get rid of a guitar that you like. You will NEVER find anything that matches it, ever!

Seems like a very prudent suggestion to me. I just don't think that anything produced by the thousands will have much collectors/investment value...

I'm kind of hooked on American Select Stratocasters. They seem to be priced pretty high on Reverb anyway.

I'd suggest investing in Soylent Green.

the only fenders that have increased or retained value in recent years are the black and white Thinline Super Deluxe telecasters, the MIM Cabronitas, Pawn Shop '72, and maybe a few others. find something used and it will retain most of its value. ive seen american standard teles and strats for like $600
