Sure, they may have hit success younger but its not impossible.

In the genre of rock music, I think its more difficult because its harder to look good in spandex at 55.

Realize that top 500 list is just one person's/companies list of what they think is the top 500.

Until there's a "Be All, End All, Official Top 500 songs of all-time" list at the Guinness Book of World Records or something super official, then it's just one list of hundreds. Make your own list. It'll be just as official as anyone else's.

This question should answer this. Who here has seen The Rolling Stones recently (with in the past 5 years or so) who had also seen them in their prime back in the day. How did the two shows compare. We’re the stones better in their prime or as old timers?

Τo hit the charts?Probably yes cause image is also a bit factor regarding that but be a musician in general no.

First of all nowadays you dont need to be "signed" so to speak to make a career of some sort in the music business....if you have talent and time you dont neet tv..you make your own tv(youtube) and market yourself according to your strengths....maybe you can be a teacher, maybe a teacher /reviewer of gear, maybe you compose short music themes that people can use in advertisements and pay for them or maybe you just wanna make actual music post it online with some cool backstory, excellent cinematography and create a following that literally pays for all those endeavours..

    I've heard it's 50% talent 50% confidence.

When you are older it's about finding the time to get the hours of playing in, to get proficient
