I have an old Fender HOT amp from the 90s and just got a Boss Katana 50 MK-II. I want to ditch the old Fender to save space, but what will I do if my buddy visits from out of state and wants to jam together? The Katana has only one input. Do you think it is a bad idea to play an electric guitar through a Roland keyboard amp? Or, do you have another idea to be able to play two guitars through a Katana?

It's fine either way. A y cable or adapter will let you play 2 guitars through the same amp, and a guitar won't hurt a keyboard amp.

Guitar through a keyboard amp may sound like butt, because guitar amps are usually voiced to improve the sound of guitars, while keyboard amps are usually voiced flat. And the keyboard amp won't have guitar FX like overdrive. It's a particular voicing, some people may like it.

When I still owned a Blackstar ID Core BEAM amp (with FRFR speakers), I plugged one guitar via normal input and another was plugged to a multi FX -> line in. Sounded great, even when both guitars played at the same time. There was no interference, all the frequencies were there. When I tried uisng both inputs of Peavey Bandit with a 12 inch guitar speaker, it sounded like crap. YMMV

Keyboard amp is typically more appropriate for bass, but there's no reason it can't be used.
Might need some pedals for overdrive.

Problem with running two guitars into one amp (even if it has two inputs) is the volume control on the guitar impacts both guitars, it mismatches the input impedance, and unless the guitars are evenly matched in output, one will be louder than the other.

None of these things will hurt the amp or guitars, but it's just generally not a good way to go... using the keyboard amp would be better than running both through the Katana.

You can buy a small mixer and run it into the amp, if it’s that important.

technically, you can run an entire band and orchestra through your amp, if you wanted.

    Yep.
Works fine on a 2-channel amp where each channel has its own input.
It doesn't work very well when the inputs are paralleled and the amp really is a single-channel amp that just switches between A and B.

Buck Owens and Don Rich used to play through the same Bassman when they started out. So...as many inputs as you have is how many people can play through it. :D

…And I was just about to say: “No, you’re missing two arms, it can’t be done” someone goes and proves you wrong.

It just goes to show: When somebody tells you something is impossible, they mean it’s impossible for them.

There’s just one input on Katana. That’s the problem.

That's what I get for just reading the title. :D

Keep the other amp or play through the keyboard amp.

    Any other suggestions cost money.

Put one amp on top of the other so you still have the same footprint on the floor

Use the keyboard amp... but get 7 band EQ to put in front of it.

I haven't actually tried this yet, but I bought a Y adapter for that very reason. I imagine it might work okay.
