Is the Ultra Strat set up with a floating bridge at the factory?

I just got a used American Ultra (Texas Tea) on eBay. It arrived with a floating bridge. The seller said he got it at the Chicago Exchange who “set it up” for a beginner player, although they told him it “wasn’t a complete set-up.” I took off the back plate and tightened the two screws holding the metal piece that the springs are hooked onto until the bridge sat down touching the body. Questions: Do Ultras normally arrive new with the floating bridge trem? And, did I do right to tighten the bridge down? Thanks.

Did I do the right thing to wear sneakers today instead of sandals?

Most of the new off the wall strats I see are slightly floating. I rarely see them decked. It’s personal preference, do you want it deck or floating?

Decked you put all 5 springs in and tighten the spring claw screws to maybe 3/4 out from the body. That’s what I do anyway. Then tune to pitch, set relief, action and then intonation for a basic setup.

Most strats I grab off the wall are typically floating, either at my local shop or big box stores.

And yes OP, you did the right thing tightening the two screws attached to the claw in the trem cavity. My recommendation is also to pop in a couple extra springs though, just to ensure the trem stays decked (if that's what you prefer).

The system is designed to float and that is how Fender ships them out. Once it’s in your hands you can do whatever you’d like.

Yes, mine did. And all of the ones I tried off the wall at two other shops did as well. Your second question is just a matter of what you want/prefer. I have a Texas Tea Tele btw, and it's such an awesome colour!
