Man I saw this and wondered why anyone would go to such lengths... and then I learned it was a Soviet Ural guitar. It looks like they wanted things the normal Soviet way - must go bigger than the Americans. Bigger sound right?

what I really want to know is if each of those 8 knobs are separate volume knobs for 8 single coil pickups... большой вопрос, может кто знает

What would you call the route for that thing? Ocean route?

I'd love the see the mess of wiring under there.

    .

If you dig a little bit on the 'guitarnuts2' forum you can uncover a couple of Strat wiring diagrams producing well over 400 different tone combinations.

There is a point in all player's journey where they want to try out "all the tones" and so they build or buy something like this. Then they learn which small handful of tones are actually useful and their next guitar is slimmed down and super simple.

My own has ended with single pickup Juniors, Teles with 4-way switching, and Strats with Armstrong Blenders.

Ha! Yeah you know if I had the extra dough and a place, maybe...

But it was kinda fascinating reading about those “guitars for the collective “ millions. There was never a need to produce something of high end quality because no one ever had a need to become a master luthier and everyone got something that just “worked” or well kinda. So supposedly it feels like a tank (shocker!) and plays terrible with high action and a tremolo bar that instantly makes the entire guitar unplayable if you actually use it... Don’t want to get into it because it’s a longer story but good reading I guess if you like to read how those poor souls suffered with their system AND crappy guitars . But hey they had pickups! And lots of them..

    From a practical standpoint...yes.

I learned a long time ago that any change you make on stage (<---this is the important part) should take no more than two moves. Otherwise you're fiddling while Rome burns.

That's a lot of magnetism pulling on those strings.

    What's the scale length ?

If something can be done, it will be done. For better or for worse. Theoretically, hopefully, the worse rots and falls off.
