I was going to pair this in the bridge position with 69’s in the neck and middle. I don’t see the colored dot of a Fat 50’s neck or bridge though. It measures 6.04 on a meter, which is in line with a Fat 50. Wire color is right, magnet stagger looks right. What do y’all think?
I believe this is correct. Because of this, it's very difficult to distinguish Fat 50s from Texas Specials. Same dot position and colors, same colored wires, same stagger.
Fat 50s should have bright orange coloured formvar coil wire, while Texas Specials have maroon coloured enamel coil wire.
Neck position Fat 50s and Texas Specials should have a blue dot on bottom. Difference as Rydock says is the wire color. Factory fitted pickups do not normally have the CS sticker.
Not true. Early Fat 50s were beveled like dremels The new ones are not. I just bought a new set of 2018 Fat 50s Flat poles, or so little bevel they were practically flat.
Because of this its easy to tell the difference. Mainly Formvar vs Enamel and bevel in the early FAT 50s pickups vs flat on the Texas Specials.
I dont know what these are but lack of red dot makes me say its not a Fender pickup. Honestly its impossible to tell what it is.
Fender and Seymour could make things a lot easier by buying a sharpie and marking them. How long would it take to do it during inspection?
Unless the tele is routed extra for the pup its hard to out a single coil pup in the neck part of a Tele But if you did it its most likely the SL1 and not the Fender. As said just got a set of Fat 50s and thr flat barely beveled poles are very similar to this one but no red dot. Forget the sticker. I mean I also believe that some Factory set up Fenders dont have a red dot or blue dot painted on the pups.... So its even more convoluted. It could be a set of fat 50s on a factory pickguard on which case there is no tellong.
Hello Everyone. my first post.... It seems very difficult to know just what you're getting. I have just bought some Custom Shop fat50 set (solderless version) The output wires are normal red white and blue wires, not vintage formvar at all, the neck pickup has the blue dot. I can easily use formvar wire as it is available to all these days. I much prefer soldering. I haven't fitted them yet. But it worries me.....
I just got a brand new set of Fat 50s and they have flat poles. It's funny that the back of the box still says they are "hand-beveled".
