Ouch.. Most players focus on theory, which is important obviously, but jazz is really all about rhythm. You have to be able to count the rhythms when you need to. The syncopations can be tough. You want to be the cat that can count.
We string players get no respect.
Cool cat or moldy fig?
In my case, both, as I dig bop , swing AND what we used to call "Dixieland" but I assume that's not PC these days...uh "New Orleans and Chicago Style jazz".
