Check out this video his lead starts at 2.10. I took jazz lessons for 12 months to learn these kind of jazzy outside the box scales and still a bit of a mystery. Sounds Dorian and mixolydian anything else he is playing here ??

Sure sounds to me like combining major and minor pentatonic or full major and minor scale......nothing strange about it to me......

I've never been a Bonamassa fan, but I really enjoyed that.

Wish I could help you. But I'm practically tone deaf so, I'm useless.

As an aside, it's nice to see him playing Fender again. I never heard anyone get as many tones out of an Esquire as Joe. He got caught up with Vintage Les Pauls there for some time now. I'm not an either or kinda of guy so I have no problem seeing him with other guitars. But it would be nice to get back to his Fender vibe every now & then.

Thanks guys but he is throwing diminished scales in there I think and blending them with Dorian and mixolydian . The jazz teacher I went to could play like that but seemed hell bent on not sharing it so I would keeping taking his expensive lessons

Nicely delivered. And I may not deliver it as well as he did. However, it's so 80s!.. Nothing wrong with that. I just decided to leave it there and move on.

Based in major and minor pents with some nods to a modal sound using Dorian and mixo.

    Fun to listen to.

It is his side gig funk band so it should have that sound.
