closest i ever came was 22 years ago when i was wicked good at Gran Turismo 3 - the GT 40 at grundenwald... i'd run practice laps for hours to wind down after work...

I learned to be a pilot too. But only on the computer.

So if the pilot and copilot pass out on a flight, and the Stewardess screams out "does anyone know how to fly a plane?", I really should be a last resort.

I bet it’s a copy.
That was my first thought as well. Turns out it's a 2006 version. Very rare. They made roughly 4000, but this version is one of less than 400 I think.
Details are in the article.

"Ford built just 4,038 of the mid-engine coupes from 2004-2006, but Mayer's is a particularly special one.
It's from a limited run of 343 commemorative Heritage Edition cars painted in the blue and orange scheme of the Gulf-sponsored race cars that won the 1968 and 1969 events.
It had a list price of $149,990 and wears the No. 6 of the car driven by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver to victory in 1969."

No comment on Johnny M or what the Uber rich do with their money.

But that is hands-down the ugliest Ford GT paint job I've ever seen.
That is faithful to the Gulf Oil livery on some of original Ford GT’s that raced at LeMans. That being said, I agree that it isn’t pretty.
