I know buddy. Those big dippers sound good too... never tried them though.

Great iteration of a vintage style stratocaster. If I had a lick of sense, I would have had one already. Those Big Dipper pickups are indeed pretty great, not sure what the particular wind mojo is for those, but they are (were?) good sounding.

I had one but sold it. I couldn’t really gel with it but it was very nice

    A Strat.
    Not a Mayer.

Wouldn't matter if it were a Mayer, still not going to sound like his.

I have one that I really enjoy. The Big Dippers are great, particularly clean or on the edge of breakup. I don’t like them as much with heavy overdrive/distortion. Neck is smooth, with tall frets, much taller than a regular American Standard. Overall, a great guitar.

Three buddies of mine own the Fender John Mayer signature model with the Big Dippers. It feels nice, but apparently, the screw threads on the truss rod for that model are liable to strip out, as evidence by one buddy of mine, who had to get the neck replaced.

I also agree that the Big Dippers don't seem to enjoy being put through heavier overdrive/distortion.

I've got my eyes set on the PRS Silver Sky now. In terms of tone and feel, it seems like a step forward; now that PRS is doing nitro finishes, the value proposition has been further enhanced in my books.

Just to clarify, you want your guitar to show wear?

Tried one briefly at a store. Gloriously fat neck, but why did such a pricey guitar have a poly finish?
