The "Where the light is" concert is ridiculously good. He consistently sounds good on every song. He's definitely no bum live singer or guitarist. I have the DVD as well. I particularly love his L-5 playing on mulholland drive.

I have the crossroads dvd with mayer playing "gravity". Super super cool song tone and playing. I did however think it was odd he plays such a relic'd instrument, seeing as how he could afford the real thing and it would probably look better.

I know this isn't a mayer thread but I have not heard a song by him I didn't like. I also think its cool that a guy with some obvious bluesey roots has made it in the current music world.

hey guys, check this out. He did a live tour of the backstage and did a sound check live on ustream and a little past halfway through, he goes over some of his guitars and talks about (and plays) the new non reliced black one, and i must say, it sounds awesome! And he said that we might see it for around $1200!!!!!! this is awesome, check it out

M MIM looks almost exactly like the black one by coincidence. I think his has a white pick guard and mine is mint. I have the gold hardware too. Now everyone's gonna think I'm copying that guitar. Oh well it sounds pretty flippin good. (his I mean)

I'm pretty sure the tuner buttons on John's are perloid, but I might be wrong.

No, his is mint.As always, mint looks white in some shots, and some lighting.

Later: Thit is, HIS is mint. I think the pickguards on the NOS version of TBO are white, which sort of makes sense, since "mint" is an aging thing...

I used to hate john mayer... That is until i saw him on the crossroads DVD... Hes actually a pretty good player. I cant stand his voice though.

This is 3 years ago, before he got his tattoos even. I think its even his first year on crossroads... Now, is he would just shut his mouth!

I think there are plenty of other people that deserve an artist series guitar as intricate as his....

John Mayer was in Crossroads 2004, Crossroads 2007, and Crossroads 2010, the "movie" version of which will show in lots of theaters nation wide... on Tuesday evening at 7:30. One showing.

By the way... how many artist series is he going to get?

And now hes getting another one? Another artist series guitar based on one that hes only played for what... under 3 years? I see making a replica if its an iconic guitar, but meh. i dont get it.

If they were smart... They would bring out a limited run of these....

Thats the guitar hendrix set on fire, and frank zappa ended up getting it and replacing the electronics... I might sell half of my liver for one of those...

Might not want to be too harsh there. It seems that there might be some truth to stratmans statement. John Mayer even proudly advertises it..

    Fact.

Don't like him as a person. Dig him as an artist. I'd be interested to play a Black One replica, but I don't think I'd shell out for it.

Those aren't different models, just different color options of the same model. Its no different than the clapton being offered in Black, red etc..

I heard out how this guitar sounds like, its really close, but I mean, REALLY close.
I'll start saving money today just to have enough to buy it, it seems like it will sound fantastic and I believe the price tag is pretty accessible.

I wouldnt complain about JM getting a sig of a guitar he's been playing for years (and is well known for) meanwhile that jimi hendrix guitar was played at what, one of his concerts? It's hard to make a replica of Hendrix's guitars because he went through so many that he was never really associated with one specific one.

And all they are doing is changing colors so its not too big of a deal. The more options they put out there, the more sales theyll get.

I'm underwhelmed. I can get a boogered up black strat on Craigslist for a lot less $$. Sorry.
