You’re already modding the guitar and said you didn’t like the neck. Buy a neck you like. Be glad it’s not an ultra

If it’s any consolation one of my original PAF pickups has a soldering iron burn on a bobbin.

If it's any consolation, I once got a similiar mark... on the tip of my index finger.

Battle scars are the warrior's honor. Or the guitar's personality. ;):thumb:

Stories you could tell regarding this:

--I acquired the neck from a Hendrix concert
--Hand selected "Flame maple" series from Fender's custom shop
    --I play fast...very fast

In all honestly, it's a lesson learned but still playable. Like others said, you have made it yours now!

Are you kidding? I love it. How much would you charge to do that to my guitars?

The jealous girlfriend (ex) thing actually happened me. She was a wanna be accustic player, had moved from a different State and didn't bring it with her. She saw my Strat and loved it, but she was a strange and crazy b**tch. The relationship was nearing it's end, she knocked it over in a frenzy one day and took a chip out of the poly on the back against one of my metal 22 u racks. I wanted to kill her but refrained it had survived 15 years without a blemish up till that day (it's now 31) and again it was out in the living room where people ( friends) would attempt to play - someone and I suspect her twisted one of the tone pots past it's maximum so it broke and just spins indefinitely and crackles almost no sound comes out now, I intend to replace the electronics soon when I get working again, some people are ****ty people.

My two cents worth. Take a round pencil, wrap a piece of 120 grit sandpaper and sand lightly to remove most or all of the burn. the go up to 220 or 240, 320, and 400. Spray some clear nitrocellulose lacquer in the cap and use a paint brush to dab some on and seal the wood. Do three or four coats sand lightly with 2000 grit sand paper and polish and you are good to go. Or buy a replacement neck. :)

Could be worse - I used to race R/C cars many years ago, and a friend had a soldering iron out to change a motor wire. Another friend hadn't seen it and perched his butt on the edge of his table...
Human flesh smells disturbingly like pork when it burns...

The only good things are it wasn't worse and you'll never do that again. So sorry that happened.

Some people pay lots of money for that look …. Which personally I think is crazy , but never mind when a guitar gets “aged” naturally … though I know your pain it’ll be a story as years pass

That's actually a very good (albeit time-consuming) idea. My 2 cents? if it's REALLY bothering you, get a replacement neck.

Three little birds came by my doorstep, and they were singing "roasted maple with spoke wheel truss rod". :p

It hurts a little right now, but it really isn't a big deal. You can be proud of this little blemish - like a badge of honor, or tribute.

Also a really good way to degauss your pickups.
Can generally get away with it in the control cavity, but using it to solder covers onto a humbucker will weaken the magnet.
