Appoligies for posting this here as it's to do with a 62 Precision, I can't get any info anywhere else?

My friend is thinking of buying a 62 Precision, the screen plate looks a bit odd to me as it's not cut clean on the curves, it also has KAISER 62 printed on it which is a new one to me, can anyone throw light on this please?

Kaiser was one of the suppliers for the aluminium sheets.
    Completely normal.

Often the shields were hand trimmed afterwards by the owners of the guitars because they became more visible because of the shrinking of the celluloid guard.

Any non- cloys-up pictures of front and back of the pickguard?
    It looks all fine...

    Thanks.

The sheet as you can see is about 1/8" oversize, if the pickguard shrunk, I doubt it would be this much across the plate, also the screw at that point is unmoved with possible shrinkage.

The chrome hardware is probably much later as it's too clean, the pots are dated 1964, it's been re-painted.

What is it being advertised as? All original? Any replacements? If you can send me hi-res pictures I can have a look.
    The shield is definitely original.
And yes, it's possible that guard shrinks that much...
    Original pickguard?

My grandfather (mom's side) worked at Kaiser Aluminum in Baton Rouge for many years..... so it's cool to learn this.

    That's unfortunate.

Might work better if there was a black lead from the jack to the back of a pot.

It doesn't look like the earth on the jack tag has ever had solder on it?

You'd think so right? But no. It's earthed of the shield plate. Like stratocaster tone pots ;)

Just wondering if this was standard wiring, using the screen as earth, I don't think so?

    Yep. Standard.

    1964 example:

Jazz basses have it too, but the whole pot/socket plate is metal.
