This cornball song is a hit in my family for totally rad 80's-ness. It gives me flashbacks to nearly every dentist's waiting room (along with Tears for Fears and Mellencamp).

Ps-the bass player crushes this song

He went on to sing the theme for Neverending Story and then disappeared. I admit Too Shy was a closet favorite of mine back in the day. Loved the bass lines in that song.

I hated this song with a vengence... until I went to a weekend of seminars and workshops for bass players. It was then I realised that Nick Beggs was a pretty decent bloke, as well as an outstanding musician. If you weren't making this sort of sound in the 1980s, you weren't going to chart. Ditto multicoloured mullets and all the rest of the stuff that made me think they were muppets first off. :D

    Thom,
The Kagagoogoo vid that @Class A Knob posted was one of the O.G. heavy rotation videos on MTV back in my middle school days - 1982-83

I was big into new wave, punk and post-punk in the 80s. A lot of the stuff I listened to then hasn't aged all that well, though I may still spin it for the nostalgia factor.

A surprising amount of stuff I liked back then I feel DOES hold up pretty well, even if some sounds dated.

There's quite a bit of stuff from the 80s that was too poppy or cheesy for me to like back then, but I find myself enjoying it much more now (again, because of the nostalgia factor I'm sure.)

But THIS song, I didn't like then, and I don't care for it now. I don't hate it. Just don't like it.

Yes, this is a recurring song I know all too well from the 80's xm radio channel. We settle on that one when she can't take Hair Nation anymore nor I with the Garth channel.

Me, I'm more of fan of Animotion's "Obsession"

Um Nick Beggs is a class A musician. Here is his modern stuff with Alex Lifeson on guitar. He is also on Stephen Wilson's albums. He is considered one of the best bass players in the industry and an innovative stick player.

Exactly. How not to market your band: have a gibberish name and gibberish lyrics. "You, know....that band with the shy shy song?"

The other night there was a skunk in our back yard. He had a hair do (Same colors even) as the lead singer...

So I wouldn't have recognized the name of the band but the song I remember...

I still think it's an excellent song. I recently re-listened to it, after about 35 years. New Wave, very broadly defined, was my music until I discovered Rainbow and Deep Purple.

Saw him play with Steve Wilson a few years ago (Govan was in the band too). Excellent musician and singer. Mid-concert someone put a Kayjagoogoo album cover on his monitor, he was smiling throughout the rest of the show!

    Still, there was better stuff.

Beggs IS a great bass player. So is John Taylor from Duran Duran.

I don't care for Duran Duran much either.

Great musicianship is not the reason I listen to most music unless it's jazz or classical.

I’m starting to remember why I didn’t have a TV for most of the 80s ....
