I am reading a book on the Stones' '72 US tour. Fascinating info. But one thing is making me curious. There are several pics of Keef playing a sunburst Stratocaster, which isn't exactly his particular cup of tea. He's been playing a wide range of different guitars, Teles, Les Paul Jrs, hollow bodied Gibsons... He doesn't seem to go for Strats or Les Pauls much, though.

Does anybody know if he used the strat thoroughly through the 72 tour or was it just a guitar for one or two songs?

I would have thought he favored the Dan Armstrong and the black LP on the 72 tour but Keith played a lot of stuff so I don’t know.

Yes, he was coming straight from a Les Paul phase, but it seems that he used a lot of Strat and Tele in that US tour... I’m trying to find out just how much.

Keith played what he wanted. Jimi's first Stratocaster belonged to Keith Richards. Keith's GF swiped it and gave it to Hendrix.

Only slightly related, but I got to see the Stones Exhibitionism exhibit when it was in Nashville, and they had a 50s sunburst Strat of Ronnie's (a 57, I believe?) that was gifted to him by the record label.

I may have lingered at that guitar for a while and perhaps left a few smudges on the glass case.

Yeah, besides Micawber, Keef doesn't seem like a one guitar kind of guy; he seems to drift around to whatever is at hand.

There's a bit about that in his Netflix documentary where his guitar tech lays out guitars for Keef to "discover" and use for the day.

Here are some pictures of that Strat. It is a 1959 Stratocaster.

Here is a link to Keith using it for „Brown Sugar“:

I think you might be talking about Ronnie Woods 1955 hard tail Stratocaster? I know he owned at least two 1955 ash body Strats and allegedly also 1954 Strats. But the 1955 hard tail is his main one. Here are some pictures out of Andy Babiuks book Rolling Stones Gear:

Based on the wear, that looks like the one! Here's my pic from the exhibit.

yep, that‘s the one. You can also see two non original string trees in the headstock. Originally, this guitar would have had a round string tree.

Keith used that Strat a lot around 1972. Then later again when Ron Wood joined the band and a bit during the New Barbarians.
