Must know 100 intros and riffs never play full songs, and being the fact some intros and riffs are pretty complex, makes me think it's not like my fingers can't do it, its my mind staying focused. Or something else
Anyone else king of riffs and intro like me?

    No.

    Just every other guitarist.

When it's time to get songs performance ready, you do it.

This is why reading charts and Nashville number system is so valuable. You can play and learn things quickly.

I challenge myself by trying to play 50s songs on first pass. They use a lot of chords I don't see much.

I was that way the first year I played. Then I got sick of e everyone saying ok, where’s the rest of the song.

But you should definitely challenge yourself to learn some full songs if you have never done it.

I know a lot of full songs, and a ton of riffs. If I'm sitting around just noodling, I rarely play a full song, even if it's one I know.

Not sure about the OP @ocean but for me its about memory - I can never remember chord patterns, I could play a song with a band 100 times and still forget when the chorus is even coming up let alone what chord changes happen

My brother!!! :D I often know all the signature parts and licks and then forget the plain chord part in the verse or chorus. :D

I was doing the same thing, because famous riffs were more fun to learn and play.
My guitar teacher had me focus on learning 5 songs, and then another 5, etc.
I've got about 15 songs I can play, but still dozens of riffs are in my memory bank.

I’m with you. My wife always says why don’t you play a song all the way through.

Thats why joining or playing in bands or jamming with other musicians is so valuable in my experience. You have to remember all the parts and changes or you look silly and let everyone else down. Once you get into that enviro met though it becomes easier.
Once you've decided on a set list recording them all together and just keep listening to them all the time and playing along to them before rehearsal s helps. I would have them on tapes in the car and listen to nothing else until I had them all down.

Maybe the guys here struggling with it could use a similar technique. Choose 5 songs record them and listen to or play nothing else until you've nailed all 5 then just keep adding to the list , eventually you will build up a great set of songs you can play from start to finish with out even thinking about it .

I can't think of more than a couple of riffs or licks. Possibly a couple of hundred of songs that I can almost remember, at least well enough to busk through.

I just tell them you sing and I’ll play the rest of the song ..... about a 98% success rate .
