    I agree with the others, clear coat it. that burst just looks messy to me with those red lines through it. It's not often you get a nice piece of wood with unique markings like that, it would be a shame to hide it.

    I don't think the burst works. But, maybe a "streaked" or "grained" finish? Its a technique that fakes the heartwood and sapwood, and also the grain of the wood using alternating light and dark stains, and you can use two or more colors to blend and balance your piece. Here's a simple example, that was done to a very plain piece of maple:

    put my vote down for "leave it as is" ... it is SO unique looking right now, don't do anything to mute the red streaks!!
