Very sad...The Cars were part of the soundtrack of my teens. RIP...

oh that's sad news...
Every band needs an Ocasek. Kinda like the Band without Robbie. Ric was very much the New Wave Robbie.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard The Cars. “Good Times Roll.” 2 AM, really high, on the local FM “Real Rocker,” no intro. Just that WTF? guitar, out of thin air. Mind, blown.
The Cars were just great rock n roll. Great tunes, great band and this one is pretty sad.
At first I hated the Cars. I hated pretty much anything that wasnt Hendrix or Led Zeppelin.
I got over the hate pretty quickly and I guess they are a reminder for me to keep my mind open.
We currently cover Just What I Needed.
Did not expect this.....
A lot of these passing kinda just float on by but not this one. A disorienting smack in the face...
maybe trite and ordinary, but these two tracks together were my favorite part of this record... i was hooked from the start on the Cars.
Oh man. Eddie Money two days ago and now this. I sure enjoyed Ric's work.
I remember back in the late 80’s...MTV used to play some of their videos out. Magic...You Might Think...some others, etc. So you got to catch a glimpse of what they looked like. But I remember the first time I really recognized him outside of a video was from that movie Hairspray. He was that Beatnik guy that acted goofy.
Ah man, that brings back a specific memory. I was a kid and one had an audience. I grabbed one of my moms Virginia Slims and quoted a scene from that movie and said, “Let’s get naked and smoke”. I had no clue what I was referencing at the time. I was just being a doofus and was trying to make my friends laugh. She yelled at me to stop that and put it down as all the guys and gals laughed. I just kept trying to imitate the Beatnik guy...wigglin’ around, actin’ a fool with a stupid look on my face while that unlit Virginia Slim was hanging from my lip.
Yeah, I thought it was funny. Then it got dark...and my dad came home...wearing the thick leather belt that had the Led Zeppelin Swan Song buckle on it. What?!? Wait!!! What’d I say?!? Lol
I remember huge BBQs at the next door neighbors on Long Island in Or around 1979-1982 and there was always The Cars cranking on the stereo. Soundtrack of many summers growing up
Debut album is basically a greatest hits record.
Played Just What I Needed in cover bands and Bye Bye Love for brief one-off event which was a blast.
Just great music to listen to, no matter what you're doing or what’s going on.
Hosting a shindig and not sure of everyone’s musical preferences...lump ‘em in with Tom Petty and THB, The Cars are a safe bet.
Very sad. Great musician. Loved The Cars. Amazing melodic pop-tastic rock! Also a great producer. He produced many fantastic albums but the two that stand out in my mind (being a Weezer fan) are the Weezer blue album and the Weezer green album.
Not only was he a great musician, he was also a great producer. Weezer's Blue Album which was a great album and several other well known artists. I'm not a huge fan of The Cars but liked their music. There will definitely be a void. He will be missed. RIP!
Damn, so many fond memories of his music. Sad day for sure.
"...because the good life is just a dream away". Great song and great band. RIP
