Anyone here had experience with one? It’ll be about $300 CAD after shipping so I was curious before I dropped that kind of money on something

    Overpriced for my budgets. lol
I recently got a Catalinbread Formula 55, which does the 5e3 thing really well. Used for cheap. There's one for $134 on Reverb now.

I had the other, similar looking one foot witch love pedal 5e3 pedal. Forget what it was called. It was cool but I moved away from that direction of trying to make my amp sound like different amps. Josh Smith likes the tchula.

Yea. Supposedly it was originally designed for him as a “one off”

I have that one. One side is a 5e3 gain and the other is more of a clean boost (similar to Xotic EP). That price seems really high. I think they went for $150 US new.

It is brighter than the Formula 5 and has higher gain. If I had to provide a comparison, I would say the Formula 5 is Neil Young while the Les Lius is ZZ top.

If you are in Canada, check out the True North Tweed Drive as an alternative.

IMO...gain pedals who slap an amp model or name on them are doing the pedal a disservice.

    You can't plug a "5e3" pedal into a JC120 and have a 5e3 sound. It's like putting a Trans Am sticker on a Datsun B210.

    Hell...a 5e3 head into a 2x12 closed back cabinet sounds nothing like a 5e3. ;)

Yeah. I’ve got a Marshall in a box pedal. Sounds great but doesn’t sound like a Marshall stack.

Seems like a lot of money. Get a kit tweed twin or 5e3. I have the "Deluxe" from love pedal and it's a really good overdrive, not the real deal.

As far as amp Designs What are the tonal differences between the 5C3 (predecessor) and the 5E3 ? was this the only real difference 6SL7 instead of a 12AX7 for a preamp?

I wouldn't argue this point for a new Porsche. However, it might help you get closer to that tone you're looking for. I think that sometimes, we as players, tend to forget everyone might not have the $$ for all of the amps we'd like. That's where (as close as I can get) comes in to play. Look at the Battalion of "Dumbles in a box have been sold. And a gazzillion SRV "pedals". They might help you get close. But as Stratoskater said "...ain't no pedal gonna sound like the real thing".

Well….I snatched up the pedal after some communication with Sean at Lovepedal. I asked him if he remembered how many he made made and his response was:

“Oh man probably less than 50?”

So you could say it’s a pretty rare pedal and hard to find at this point. I’m not necessarily looking for a 5e3 clone and I don’t have a ton of money to spend on an original 5e3, I was just looking for a good “grindy” overdrive. I justified the cost to myself ($260 CAD plus shipping) because when I thought about it, it’s actually 2 pedals, a 5e3 deluxe and a Tchula lol.

Anyway, I’m pumped for it’s arrival so I can start rockin out with it!

Lots of differences. Phase inverter. Look at a schematic or a layout.
