Last I checked, tools are operated with one's hands, not other, sex-differentiated body parts...

I agree with you there. I know a lot of young men who cant do anything but play video games and smoke pot. But I also know a few that do a lot with their hands, myself included. A friend of mine and I built a playground last year. Hes currently helping build a church. Cars? I only know the basics. Im better at home maintenance and wood working. And guitar maintenance, of course. Ha.

Geeze, give me a break with the ageism BS around here. I can't claim to be "young" anymore, but here's a head scratcher: When I decided to start working on things as a youngster, I didn't have anybody to guide me. My dad and grandfather were just as ill prepared to do basic maintenance things that you guys claim anyone under 40 suddenly incapable of doing.

Regardless of age, gender, etc. people who want to learn will learn.

When my son was about 14, I told him to come out and watch/help as I did the brakes on the car. He quipped "no thanks Dad, I'm gonna make enough money to have someone else do that kind of stuff"...he has since learned to regret his "hands off" approach :D:D:D:D. He now realizes doing some of the "work" is a way to real cost and time savings...and is learning to do some mechanical work himself. And, he has gotten pretty good at woodworking stuff.

There are some, however, that do not have the aptitude, experience, or interest in knowing/learning how to fix anything. Someone mentioned wiper blades earlier...I probably installed a set of wiper blades daily when I worked auto parts >45 years ago--for grown men. It isn't a generational thing...my Sailors proved that over and over again, fixing unfixable things.

Invite them along to watch you do it, then they'll know how next time.

They’d have to put their smart phones down for too long in order to work on a project like that, plus doing those sorts of tasks makes your brain hurt when you’re 25.:D
