Filming for The Matrix 4 has begun – and the crew is not keeping it much of a secret.

Streets throughout the city of San Francisco are blocked off, one sign that you have found the right place if you’re a fan of The Matrix series. But if you are lucky enough to get close to the active set, will you see some of your favorite actors and actresses?...

...You have probably noticed the words ‘ice cream’ a few times in this article. There is a reason for that; the film is under the code name ‘Project Ice Cream.’

With filming just beginning in San Francisco, details of the plot or what will take place in the movie is not known. But rumors imply that the movie contains time travel. Only time will tell.

I loved 1, but if I can just forget 2 & 3 with MIB technology, it might be worth it. I wonder if Neo will say 'Be excellent to each other!'?

That's fine. Could they just feck off to another time and preferably dimension and just leave us alone.

Maybe he'll go back in time and prevent the sequels from being made! Or go hang out with William "Bill" S. Preston Esq.?

It might have potential, if the premise is strong. They've had a long time to think about it. I'll bite.

Considering the lazy writing that was Matrix 3 (Revolutions) and to some degree Matrix 2 (Reloaded), I can't say I'm enthused.

I'd much prefer the effort was given to new unrelated material rather than milking the same old franchises. There's lots of potential new stories and ideas out there. But studios risking big money like to fall back on stuff with name recognition and automatic audience attraction. That's the way of things I reckon.

As if the Wachowski's aren't already far enough out there.
Matrix and the first sequel were enjoyable, but close enough to believable that not all sense of reality had to be suspended to understand the film.
The 3rd one went too far in crossing the line between the real and the virtual.

Cloud Atlas was just strange... and Sense8 carried the same ideas into a miniseries. Like a lot of HBO shows, there was gratuitous sex and violence for no other reason than to display sex and violence.
I doubt I'll be seeing this one before it hits TV/Netflix.

It's 2020, all the payphones are gone. How is he going to escape the Matrix?

    Maybe that's the storyline...

Maybe he'll be given instructions for rooting his smartphone and a way to hack it.

No, now you'll have to crawl through sewer lines to escape.

In Matrix IV he meets his long lost genetic twin brother played by Nicolas Cage. They are hunted down by Jack Reacher and John Wick clones played by cheech and chong disguised as "ice cream" vendors, thus the project name easter egg.

    Hilarity ensues.

In defense of the directors, I believe a lot of the blame lies on the studios, who forced them to change a variety of issues, such as the original premise, humans were linked to form a giant computing complex. The studios thought that was too challenging for the average viewer, and made them change it, completely undermining the premise from the beginning, forcing them to invent the dumb battery thing.

All that said - the first one is one of my favorite movies. Not saying I'd sit though it again without the aid of 9,10-didehydro-N,N-diethyl-6-methylergoline-8β-carboxamide, but it was pretty amazing.
