If it's the best Strat you have ever played but it's still lacking something, it may be the Tex Mex pickups. I had them installed at one time on my Strat and the only pickup I really liked out of the batch was the bridge pickup. Maybe a pickup swap will bring the guitar to where you want it to be. It sounds like you love the neck and the way it plays.

I’d either get a second job or poison a relative for an inheritance before parting with a Jimmie Vaughan Strat.

Then again, if you did trade it, at least it would be in a nice home where it is appreciated for the gem that it is.

You don't part with your favourite guitar, not even for food.

That's already been done. Texas Specials are in it now (I had a Nashville Tele with Tex Mex pickups in it - they were very "meh" to me). Sounds great by all metrics. I just don't know what it is. Maybe I need to change string gauge to get more snap (I have 10's on it now). Maybe I need to deck the trem instead of float it (the MIM Standard that I had for over a decade was decked).

Maybe it's the moving target of amplification. I've more or less retired my tube amp and was mostly using a Tech 21 Blonde until a few months ago when I got my HX Stomp as an amp replacer. Maybe I just need to plug straight into my tube amp and get back into that tone.

    Maybe I'm just bored. :)

I played my JV at rehearsal last night in your honor...into a slightly juiced up 73 Princeton Reverb.
    Beautiful.
Once I took a beautiful Custom Shop Strat with the signature of a fancy master builder on the COA.
I figured I'd keep it and sell the JV because I didn't need 2 Strats.
I ended out selling the CS for almost 3k because I didn't like it any better than the JV!
Got a mint '74 ES335 with the dough
