Don't like relics? Keep it to yourself. This was listed this morning at a decent price or for trade. I offered my minty 2003 MIM black/maple in trade and he's interested. I prefer a lighter relic but I did have a heavy relic years ago that I dearly loved and have regretted selling ever since, but I made a 400% profit that I couldn't pass up. Anyway, the only thing Fender about this AFAIK are the Texas Special pickups and the tremolo. Supposed to meet the guy after work to look at each other's guitars.

You are aware that neck isn't Fender right, which makes me question the body too....nice pickups though!

    EDIT - you're aware, I just re-read your post :)

Lol, I know it's a relic, but the grunge level on the plastic parts seems extra filthy! o_O

Yeah the relic is a little more than I'd ask for if I was having one made but we'll see what it feels like. That's all I really care about. Had this one about 10 years ago. Can't login to my old photobucket account anymore.

I know you didn't want feedback on relics, and I have nothing against them but...you posted the pics, all those close-ups that I can't unsee, and I have to say that is one of the nastiest/ugliest strat-ish guitars I've seen on this forum. Those who appreciate relics might feel otherwise, I wonder whether this will be sellable when/if you decide to move on? Again, I'm not anti-relic, and I normally like the guitars you post very much, but this one's really different. Good luck whatever you decide to do!

I love relics, so my comments are more like a personal preference, but if it were me (and I found I really love how it sounds and plays), I'd seriously consider refinishing the body with black nitrocellulose lacquer and doing my own relic job.

Otherwise the rest of it looks totally awesome!

If I had those skills I'd have a herd of relics. I've actually thought about doing a mild relic to my own Strat but I'd screw it up.

You could spot repair it - since black is thee most forgiving color to conceal imperfections. Even if the repair job is subpar it won't matter, since it suppose to look subpar, right? If it's already nitro then overspray the questionable areas with some Guitar Reranch lacquer and (after a looong period to let the nitro dry) wet sand, steel wool then hand buff the entire body until everything's reasonably blended together. A subtle sand-through on the top edge and a couple "accidentally" dropped screw driver nicks and you'll be good to go!

    Imagine the possibilities...

If you showed up with that at our weekend jam , you would get mighty big respect.

Just some tips though, make sure you park a beat up VW mini bus outside ( must be orange or green ) full of a couple hairy friends, a real beaten Marshall double stack, some beverages and a packet full of natural happiness.

Oh, and don't wear stove pipe jeans.....

Hey, I can't dislike relics, I'm fast becoming one myself.

Bet you that plays like sick man

That whole guitar is $169 shipped to your door from Alibaba, and then someone put pickups in it (assuming the pickups are even real).

Remember the CL rule: If a guitar has a Custom Shop logo on it, it's fake.

That's what I was trying to warn @Lonn of, but he seems to know what he's doing......I don't think it's a quality piece.....

    .

That'll be a good project guitar.

These are the mods I'd do:
    - Sand the gloss out of the paint remaining, give it a 800-1,000 grit satin feel, scrubbing around any sharp paint/wood on there now.
    - Make sure the fretboard edges are rolled/eased, then satin-sand the neck too.
    - Tort pickguard, aged to match.
    - Custom wiring to get a series humbucker out of the bridge and middle pickup with a switch or blender or some other fun hot-rod upgrade.
    - Block the trem.

    .

We're meeting at my place so I'll talk him into letting me crack it open. He's claiming it's NOT Fender but he's not sure what it actually is. I don't particularly care myself as long as it feels and plays good. I've only got $250 into the MIM I'm offering in trade. A guitar doesn't have to come from Fender to be good.
