A local seller put an MIJ Strat up for sale. See pictures. It appears to have a System 1 Tremolo 28C56406-A4F8-408E-922C-4D81BB5450D5.jpeg 9D76421A-1C91-4D3B-ABD9-FC4C363832C3.jpeg BF6FD801-20BF-4144-A289-0F3975CCB5D0.jpeg with missing intonation screws. That should be fixable. But how about the back of the headstock? There appears to be a piece of metal on the back. Anyone seen that before?
Thanks!

I used to own of those in white. Cant say I've ever seen that before. I can only assume it's an attempt at creating more sustain. Or it's hiding a repair one of the two. 🤔

Sadly, many Strats do not have enough "Neck Dive". This is a homemade attempt to fix that.

Inadvertantly it might increase sustain.
This could be a homemade job, the current FF's are a clamp type device. Seems like the originals were like this though. There is no doubt that adding mass to the neck impacts both sustain and can eliminate or move dead spots.

The original 8 hole has been mashed up, wrong screws/extra holes. Plus the intonation screws missing, might mean the treads are stripped. I'd duck this myself unless the price is basement end.

Copy that. If the metal was installed because of dead spots that doesn’t make it attractive
