Not a huge country music fan, and I'm not sure I completely understand the meaning of the lyrics, but this feels so much like a mirror song that it burns.

I covered this one recently in large part because the lyrics resonate so much with me these days.

    Long in tooth and soul
    Longing for another win
    Lurch into the fray
    Weapon out and belly in

    Warrior struggling
    To remain consequential
    Bellow aloud
    Bold and proud
    Of where I've been
    But here I am

    Beating chest and drums
    Beating tired bones again
    Age-old battle, mine
    Weapon out and belly in

    Tales told of battles won
    Of things we've done
    Caligula would grin

    Beating tired bones
    Tripping through remember when
    Once invincible
    Now the armor's wearing thin
    Heavy shield down

    Warrior struggling
    To remain relevant
    Warrior struggling
    To remain consequential

    Cry aloud
    Bold and proud
    Of where I've been
    But here I am
    Where I end

    Warrior struggling
    To remain relevant
    Warrior struggling
    To remain consequential

    Tears in my eyes
    Chasing Ponce de Leon's phantom
    So filled with hope
    I can taste mythical fountains
    False hope, perhaps
But the truth never got in my way
    Before now, feel the sting
    Feeling time bearing down

This is one I always felt like I could be singing myself.
At the end of every visit to California my heart and soul were always left behind. The home I was never able to make my home.
Mixed with the forever emptiness from loosing that someone my heart knew was the one.

They don't really put out a lot of songs about small bald deaf guys on the cusp of being old...

I went through a really tough time about eleven years ago. This song really seemed to say what I was feeling at the time and still makes me reflect on myself a lot.

I'm not this guy anymore, but the echoes of my former self still haunt me. I love this song.

I think Fezz Parka introduced me to this tune.
