MJT wait times

Just curious if anyone else is waiting a extremely long time for a custom body or did they just forget about me?

Paid in full June 15th. It’s now over 5 months so I asked what’s going on. It’s in the next order to come from Wildwood to MJT. So it’s about if the wood selection/cutting stage and ready for MJT to paint. So basically the first step that says can take up to 6 weeks. Yes I’m sure it’s busy but damn it’s been a long time.

I emailed and this is a timeline pic I got showing where I’m at highlighted in green.

Do yourself a favor, call Matt @ MJT. He is highly reasonable and is also Mark's son. He knows things can go sideways. I have always found him to be reasonable and extremely helpful. He even went to the trouble of taking a quick photo of what ever stage the work was at.

I had a lake placid blue jazz bass body done by them during peak covid times it was around 4 months. My friend put in a order for a fiesta red strat body the same time I did and took him closer to 6 months.

Yes I’ve probably ordered 12 or so bodies over the years. I talk to Matt directly. Usually a 4-6 month wait time even over the 2 year period when the world was upside down.

This is a bit extreme so I wonder if it’s because of a bag log or they just literally forgot about my order. This is what I kind of asked Matt and got a reply saying it’s on the next shipment from Wildwood. So yeah it’s at step one still. It says 16 weeks give or take on that 8 step process pic I posted. That’s what Matt send me.

I’m almost at the 22 week mark and they don’t even have the body yet!! This could be a year long process.

aside from taking the money they don't care for your business. this is like the worst attitude you could encounter when engaging in economic transactions. smells like fraud to me.
i know nothing, of course.
i run a business and collect NO advances EVER under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. and the reason is that by the time the advanced resources have to be used for customer's job, the money will likely be not there anymore to use or be short. that's how businesses go under.
the only way this could make sense after all this wait is if you get a sincere personal explanation from someone higher up. and, ideally, it would come from their initiative and not your prompt.
i feel bad for you.

I don’t think it’s fraud or they’re hurting for business. I just think my order got skipped over a few times and after the 5 month mark I emailed to see what’s up. Yes a explanation for the extreme wait time would be nice. Maybe next time I’ll just not place a order and go with a ready made eBay body or just shop elsewhere.

WIldwood must be either really really busy or under staffed. 6 weeks seems a bit long to me for an unfinished body. But like so many places, they set the timeline way out so they can CYA if it does take that long. Thus if they do it in 4 weeks, they have exceeded expectations. Looks real good in marketing stats.

Problem in this case, it's been nearly 6 months, and still not in hand at MJT.

No you're good. 6 weeks does seem like a long time, it's just they are way over that now.

Yeah 6 weeks, 3 months sure. It’s bust but yeah almost 6 months and they don’t even have it yet seems a bit much. Pretty sure this will be the last time I special order something from them. I mean it’s just a 2 piece ash pbass body, nothing super crazy.

is the p bass body being finished, or not?
pretty clear something went wrong here, and the reply only made this worse.

sorry to hear about this, I know wait times suck, and screwups make it worse.
bit overkill to call this fraud, I would call them.

I recently had very much different experience with Mario, at guitar mill,
his listed wait times were 4-5 months, for a body and finish.
So I paid my money and got in line.
6 weeks later……the body shows up, very much exceeding my expectations. The neck pocket needed minor fitting, so it’s custom tight.
the depth was perfect. I am overjoyed at the finish, color, and woodwork.
it is perfect. I Could not want for anything more here. And even if I had waited 6 months would be perfectly happy.

I can not say the same for an mjt, body I have. The neck pocket depth is wrong on that body, never used them again.

just my thoughts.

Yeah no fraudulent activity going on, just a screw up, overlooked order is all. Yes the body is being finished by MJT, they just didn’t get the body yet. So it could be on their supplier as to why it’s taking so long.

I’ve used Guitar Mill and MJT for lots of projects. They both have their pros and cons. I found the GM bodies have a really shallow neck pocket depth and MJT has it a little deeper. Who is correct? I don’t know. Most necks fit into a MJT body really well with minimal pocket cleaning/sanding. GM takes a good amount of “fitting” the neck. No big deal.

I ordered a custom Musikraft neck the exact same time as the body. I’ve had that neck since August. I even refinished it a few times to get the right colour. It’s mounted to a squier body for now.

I've been waiting 4 months on them to install hardware and ship mine.

I wouldn’t imagine that taking long but yeah they’re extremely busy. They actually have a faster order time or process now so that may help in future orders. Still mine was 8 months or so. Definitely worth the wait but damn it was painful.

I’ve been waiting over a year actually. Took about 6m originally but they didn’t do the right color, so they started another but I’ve had a strat and tele sitting for 4 months after being completely finished minus hardware installation.
