Don't get me wrong. Fred Gwynne as a great actor and could be a very funny guy even when playing a straight role as the judge in My Cousin Vinny. Uh Mr Gambini, "What's a Yute".

But the Addams Family thought they were just normal people, everybody else was screwed up, and John Astin made Gomez seem real. So I gotta go with The Addams Family for the win.

Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester was perfect casting too.

    The Addams family for me.

Far more sophisticated comedy than the slapstick Munster stuff that I thought a bit naff even as a child in the '60's.

Addams get my vote - their gallows humor was delivered as if it was meant in earnest and not a joke.
Plus, my father-in-law is 6'5", and his nickname in the Air Force was "Lurch."

I just remembered Gomez casually pulling a lit cigar out of his pocket and puffing away as if that was normal.

No contest for me... Addams family.
Munsters was a cheap knockoff, imo. Their cars were pretty cool, though (George Barris designs, iirc).

Munsters was to Addams Family as Northern Exposure was to Twin Peaks... similar basic concepts,
but one was truly weird and original, and the other was... much less in every way, LOL.

I was ten years old in 1964 when both The Addams Family and The Munsters debuted on TV. I'd have to give it to The Munsters as being car crazy back then I loved the vehicles created for the show by the late George Barris. Diehards will know their were two Marilyn's in The Munsters as the first one quit after the first season because she missed the boyfriend she left back in her hometown. It's funny but not many noticed the change, I didn't.

The Addams Family, was very good too, but the humor in it, might have been a bit too sophisticated for me at the time. Except when Uncle Fester put the light bulbs into his mouth and they lighted up. They sold those in toy stores (including a hidden battery) and I remember having one at the time.

Some might not know about, or have seen, The Munsters original pilot episode that never aired. The network liked the show, but demanded some cast changes. And after you see this pilot I think you'll agree the changes were for the best. The original Eddie Munster was way over the top . . .

that's a tough one for me... I loved both as a kid. Addams Family had the dry humor but there was some goofy humor that was fun on the Munsters. And who doesn't love the Dragula.

Remember when Eddie grew a beard and had to dip it in the soup to get rid of it?

While I like the Munsters theme song, it's not nearly as great as the Addams Family song.
Everybody knows the "da da da dum snap snap" riff and the lyrics are clever. No lyrics in the Munsters theme.

I think the Munsters is funnier, but Adams Family has Morticia and she still has me under her spell.

I loved them both so it's tough to choose. I'll go with the Munsters because they had the coolest cars:

When you say things like that you insult clueless twits everywhere. Even if they never watched either show. That's racist.
