    Not everyone hates Peaveys. In fact I've read a lot of positive comments about them here. My '70s 212 Classic is still going strong, and its overdrive is fantastic sounding, as long as I overdrive the 6L6s and not the solid state preamp. Overdriving the output tubes can give a gut-pounding bottom end if you have the eq set for it. Many amps can't do that and sound good.

    I remember those and they were some of the better amps Peavey ever made. Every store in town has a picture of Hartley Peavey with the owner of the shop in it. The brand is very popular in the area due to the low prices. Us being next door to Mississippi cut the shipping part of the supply down which kept the cost low. Remember those big giant Musician amps?? Oh gee man those CS-800 power amps. A staple of every working band back then. I remember having 2 racks of 4 of those things and they weighted a TON! You had to really want to play music just to set up for a gig.

    One of the amps really grilling the power tubes.
    Not many tubes that can stand those super high plate voltages these days. We are speaking about whopping 700V (!)
    Great amp.

    All the best,
    Robin

    The Tech did tell me he doesn't see many of the 70's Peaveys but he also said, "I know its gonna be expensive to get her up to par, but you can't buy a better amp for the same money right now." That gave me the confidence to go ahead and get it serviced like needed. It does sound amazing, but not too many places other than outside gigs I can crank it up and let it really breathe.

    Great story Gumbo, that sure is cool. Glad you got it working and back in playing shape! PM me your Amp guy as I might bring in my Bandmaster to get the caps checked and the speakers checked for reconing.

    Looks excellent! The photo left out all the glass shattering and plaster falling off the ceiling though. :)

    Great amp, excellent for pedals, amazing on bass. And the amp on quite a few classic records. I have seen the HD130 heads on stage with a few modern metal heads too! The headroom and power accomondates drop to A, G#, G and eight string like few other.

    The look of it makes me miss my old super reverb. :(

    @Duotone
    Oh it was great to have the amp last night! It was very different but still great in its own way. Much more classic Fender then the big Marshall I’m so used to. But having real Reverb and Tremelo a few times a night was cool too. I got it up to about 4 with the Master wide open which is pretty loud.. (I know cause I been rattling my neighbors windows for the last few weeks like that and a few told me so)... but nobody told me to turn it down all night! It did take all the OD’s very well. After a few songs I could just tell everything was going to be all right.

    I been Jonesin’ for a Super also for the last few years. But none of the ones I played seemed to sound that great. I’m glad I rescued this amp from pergatory instead. It does what it was designed to do back in the 70’s by Leo and the guys at MM. it was built to eat a Super’s Lunch...

    Those Music Man amps are killer, and the fact that you've had that one for so long and now have it restored to it's full glory - man, how can you not love that?!!!

    It mighty just eat the late 70s fenders amps monthly rations too...

    I am pretty set in the amp department for the time being, but I do have a craving for 4x10 cabs. Nothing wrong with a HD130 monted inside it too.
