I have recently created my own Stratocaster by taking a $10 Hamer Slammer body and painting it purple. I put on a Squier neck on it and then put in a loaded pickguard, which took some tweeking to fit properly. All in all, not too bad for a first attempt. I have included some pictures. Note the subtle differences in size between the purple Strat, the blue Squier and my American hardtail.

    Nicely done!

I've wondered if Hammer Slammers were Fender spec, and now I know.

I used a "metallic grape" spraypaint from Hobby Lobby.

Thank you for the welcome too. The Squier is original bur I put an aftermarket maple fretboard neck on it. I shaped the headstock with a file and then sanded it. lol

Yes, there are subtle differences that became less subtle when putting the loaded pickguard on. It took some work and there are some small gaps.

Thank you. I think it looks good with the black pickguard and the matching headstock.

The ironic thing is that I'm a Hank Marvin fan and went out of my way to get a red Strat and ended up getting a hardtail, but I love it! But now I'm enjoying tremelos too!

Hi Hankmarvinfan! I'm glad he's got a fan - I have always felt that he deserved more respect. When I was a teen, The Shadows were just the backing group on Cliff Richard's terribly nice Saturday evening TV show. I knew that they had been massive in the late '50s/early '60s, so it was a bit sad. They descended even further when they played the Eurovision Song Contest.

Thanks for your post - made me get out my copy of "Sacha" and play it!
