just picked her up today. She has the most god awful teenager-garage refinish that clearly has specks of sand/hair etc. Also the neck was refinished ages ago and they put the incorrect logo on the headstock. However other than plastics and refinish/refret it appears to be all original. I’m excited to bring her back to life! A few questions:

    1) which logo is correct for a feb 1966 neck? I have seen some 66 strats with the “DES” logo and some of them with the five sets of digits below the sync trem phrase logo. I’m not sure which logo to buy to make it correct.

    2) I need to get it refinished. Any recommendations on someone in so cal who is experienced with vintage guitars?

    3) the neck is one of the bigger U shaped necks. Anyone know of a reputable luthier/repairman who can have the neck reshaped into a soft V or modern C without destroying this guitar?

    4) some of the saddle screws are a bit rusty, and one the Allen hole is stripped. Should I take the saddles off and soak in wd40 or something to make sure they won’t break in the saddles during adjustments.

Toss the saddles in a jar and pour some coke then let it sit for a day or two. The rust will come off easy.

May I suggest you don't reshape the neck? That will kill the value of the guitar entirely (and might qualify as crime against Strat-manity ;D). And it might cost you close to what you'd spend for a good Musikraft neck. Get another neck and reverently store that 66 neck away. Or maybe give it a good try as it is. Of course it's your guitar and none of my business what you do with it! And: congrats!

+1. Whatever you paid for that guitar, divide it by 4 if you reshape the neck. As others have said, get a non-vintage neck you like the feel of. You'll get the great vintage sound from the old wood body and pickups. A neck change won't change the sound, but it will feel better to you.

If you're carving up the neck you may as well leave the god awful refinish and rusty saddles in place to commiserate with the ruined neck

Please, please, pretty please don't have someone take a blade to that neck. There are so few in this world that haven't suffered a similarly unfortunate fate.

I would have to buy coke just for the job, vinegar is useful stuff to have around. Cocktails? Stick an umbrella in my Guinness, if you dare...

I'm afraid I'd have to answer to this afterwards. To which I'd have to say "no, I do not "

I agree reshaping the neck is a silly idea.
    Congrats on the new guitar

If you end up in not liking that neck, please send it to me. If you don't like this option, please don't reshape that neck.

If you want to do a dead-nuts restoration, send it to Lay's in Ohio.

There's no one in So Cal as good as these two. No one.

Buy another neck and put that one in the closet. I wish my 65 was a big U. Its friggin slim as hell.
