Here is how it sounds clean through a 1962 Silvertone 1472. Tone in middle. Little 59' humbucker.

A bit of Knofler. Not like him though.

Raw & unplugged. iPhone about 4' away.

Background noise was my son playing in the basement.

    Great job!

Hint on Knopfler, try it without the pick ;)

    Installed Tone & 3-way.

    image.jpeg

Just knobs I had. Maybe black for the final.

    image.jpeg

500K audio taper Vol, 500K Tone pot with 0.047uf cap. Switch will allow selecting acoustic pre-amped pickup signal & magnetic pickup, separate, or mixed.
Nice now. Can roll some tone off.

The only thing that ll make it more epic is if you made it using the strat shape and not the tele one....

I think the sound would get trapped in the horns & wouldn't come out the sound hole. :p:D:D

Worked on installing Chineese Fishaman 301 Presys Blend piezo & pre-amp.

    image.jpeg

I removed from the plastic case. Decided to install the boards inside the guitar cavity.
That way, I won't wreck the astetics of the guitar by mounting through the spruce top in the upper front/top bout.
If I set the Bass-Middle-Treble, how I like then I'll leave that alone in the body. Can tweak on an amp if needed. I'll set the Volume on the 301 acoustic pre-amp to match the magnetic pickup, then my Vol & Tone on the front of the guitar will be the Master. The 3-way switch will select either, or both.
If I don't like that, I might be able to remote the Vol & Blend pot from the Fishman 301 to the front of the guitar. Play with that later if needed.

I removed 0.030" from the bottom of the saddle slot, then I'll take whatever needed off the bottom of the saddled to get my string height for proper action.

    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

I also cut a control access cover out of the back of the guitar. I'll use the exact piece I cut out of the back as the control cover. I'll make an identical shape piece of wood about 3/4" wide, 3/8" larger, & 3/8" smaller than cover. It will look like an odd shaped "D" shape of the cavity. I will glue to the inside back of the body, & protrude about 3/8" into the cavity hole to allow the cover to sit & be screwed to. When I build it, you will understand what I'm doing.
I drilled 3 small holes, the width of the blade to makes small slot. I removed the small pin from one end of the coping saw to slip the blade through the hole. The re-installed the pin, monted the blade in the coping saw & commended to cut the cover out.

With slight sanding & finish, it should fit with a slight space.

Did some more mods to the pre-amp, got it wired up & running.
Made a remote battery cable & changed the jack to stereo on the guitar.
This allows the pre-amp ground to be lifted when a regular mono guitar amp cable is unplugged from the guitar. The pre-amp ground runs to the main ground on the jack, the returned ground runs on the middle/ring. When the mono plug is inserted, the ground circuit gets completed back to the pre-amp.

The piezo pre-amp is wired into the 3-way switch before the guitar Vol & tone. This allowed me to set the acoustic piezo pre-amp volume to match the mag/electric pickup. Then the main Vol is controlled to amp, when switched to either pickup, or together is equal.

Played last night with everything hanging out. I will figure where inside I will mount the pre-amp.
I also have the option of the mic on the pre-amp mounted to the inside of the body, to be blended with the piezo. I could remote that pot, or equivalent valued pot to the front controls for blending. If I mount the pre-amp where I could just see the tuning LED through the sound hole while playing, I could also remote the button to turn that on or off from the front of the guitar.

    Decisions.

Some videos of the acoustic piezo sounds. Running flat EQ though my Hughs & Kettner Tubemiester 18 Custom combo.

I have an A/B switch which my son & I connected my Sigma SDK-41 with piezo/pre-amp pickup & this Acoustasonic Copy to compare.
I'm very pleased with the sound of this. Adjusting the EQ on the pre-amp, I could get almost the identical sound as the Sigma acoustic through the same setup.

Milled the body out about 1/16" deeper to get rid of Forstner bit marks.

Worked on the guitar yesterday & today.

Intonation was off. Needed to move the acoustic bridge to the rear to lower the tuning at the 12th fret, was high on most strings.
Plugged original bridge string holes in the bridge body block with 3/16" maple dowel plugs, & made spruce plugs for the front.

Decided to glue the top on with Titebond Liquid Hide Glue. If ever I have to remove the top, the hide glue joint should come apart. Can get it started from the control cavity or sound hole.

    image.jpeg

Clamped it up with some of my violin clamps I made years ago.

I got the purfling trim glued in tonight.
Started on the sound hole trim.
Used my violin purfling edge tool, X-Acto knife & pick chisel.
Cut the groove with the double bladed purfling too, then pick chisel to pick the wood out of the groove.

    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

Bent the 3-layer purfling on my rib iron.

    image.jpeg

Thinned down hide glue & layed in with a toothpick. Then pushed in with the handle end of the X-Acto knife.

    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

    Planed & scraped flush.

Now, worked on outer edge trim.
I only needed to cut the spruce top, since I was in laying between maple edge & spruce top. Cut by hand with X-Acto knife.

    image.jpeg

Picked out the spruce within the slot.

    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

Again, pushed purfling in with the handle end of the X-Acto knife.

    image.jpeg

Once the glue dries, I'll scrape & sand.

The thin hide glue dried pretty quick.
    Scraped & sanded.

    image.jpeg

Purfling looks pretty good most places.

    image.jpeg

One spot the outer black fabric edge filled in the spot I had slightly wide.

    image.jpeg

I'm pretty happy the way it turned out.
Makes the guitar look much more finished now.

I am a long way off from making details like that with hand skill. Seeing how it is done by hand is incredible.

Got bridge back on in the new/correct position. Back together & strung up this evening.

    image.jpeg

Intonation seems really nice. Might file/tweak saddle on final assembly.

Ordered a 5-way switch, changing out the 3-way. With that, I might play with some electronic tweaking.

My thoughts are to remotely add resistors to the acoustic EQ circuit in a couple positions of the switch 5-way switch. They will change the resistance of the pre-set EQ pots, Bass-Mid-Treb. Since the acoustic EQ is nestled/mounted inside the guitar body, set to the sound I like, then switching to the next position, will change resistance to the circuit on either side of the EQ pot. This will change the EQ settings to a thinner, or thicker sound. I could have 3 different acoustic sounds on the 5-way switch.
I'm also looking at experimenting with schottky diodes to add slight crunch/distortion to the mag/electric pickup in another position, & straight mag/electric in the last position.
Then maybe a push/pull volume to combine the acoustic & mag pickup together in whatever position.
I also picked up a 250K & 500K blend pots, which I may swap 1 into where I have the tone pot. Maybe blending something together instead of the push/pull.

Lots of ideas, & experimenting coming up. ;)

Wiped on water based grain sealer last night.

    Sanded back today.

Made about 4 ounces of stain from Dark Garnet Shellac soaked in alcohol, tinted with ColorFX, 5 drops of Amber & 4 drops of Burnt Sienna.

Wiped stain & rubbed excess with rag, 4 coats.

I'm liking it, even though the back is a little blotchy. :D

Good Lord. That neck has more eyes than sailors on inspection day. What a gorgeous piece!
