Just got it after lunch...The sound was much like an older Champ at first, then just minutes ago the sound got better. More clearer with more bass... I like it... I have my favorite V1 tube incoming and am thinking hard about a Bendix 5992.

The reverb is nice and the trem is awesome...

I was able to play in the kitchen this am and not wake any sleepers... I can take a break from the cans... But, now I am thinking about an Ox for a headphone amp. But, that is months away budget wise...

The Toshiba 12AX7 showed up and is in amp now. The stock tube was branded Groove Tubes, looked like a JJ. Bendix is on order and should be here Saturday.

Fender has hit a home run with this amp lineup I have the 68’ Custom Pro Reverb - just immaculate tone and you can gig with it at 40 watts.

what’s the stock speaker in the vibro champ?

I think a lot of players are taking note of this line of amps

Have one and absolutely love it, the tube base tremolo sounds great, and was surprised how big a sound you can get out of the Hall digital reverb.

Congrats and HNAD. I wouldn't mind having one myself. Enjoy playing through it.

I already have a Fender Champ, so I don't need another one, but the '68 Custom Pro Reverb is really calling me. I might have to think about getting one before the price goes up, especially since I just noticed that my 2019 Fender '57 Custom Deluxe (which was $1999 new back then) is now $2199!

Stock speaker is an inexpensive celestion... Ceramic magnet for better clean tone I bet... I would like to find a good original 8" and get an adapter ring... I am one of the few that like the stock speakers in the early Champs.

just to torture you a bit…..lol
Not sure if you’ve played one but the stock speaker is a Celestion Neo Creamback. It sounds very nice and Cleary in the Creamback family - very lightweight BUT the magnet is small and not sure if this is a characteristic of the neo magnet but the speaker REALLY compresses easily when you push it with a lot of input / gain. Was playing out with it and was using a mid boosted guitar amp on 4.5 to 5 and it was just mud. The speaker just doesn’t hold together well. That’s the only drawback to this amp.

I bit the bullet and loaded an Alnico Cream and the sound is richer with more detail. Has to turn the reverb down and you can crush that speaker with gain and it holds together. It’s a far better speaker but heavier. Worth every pound. The amp sounds incredible with either speaker - just depends on if you want to play out with it or strictly bedroom

    That's a bummer.

Well, the only reason I was considering it is because my 2019 Fender '57 Custom Deluxe doesn't have enough clean headroom at higher volumes (the overdrive is gorgeous though) so I thought the Fender '68 Pro Reverb would do the trick.

To be honest, I'm also seriously considering getting the Fryette Power Station "Re-amper/Attenuator" since it can increase the power of my amp up to 50 watts if needed. Then I'd have the "best of both worlds" dream setup (I love my Deluxe) - although having a '68 Pro Reverb would be super cool too.

But (for me) spending another $300 for a Celestion Alnico Cream on top of $1400 for the '68 Pro Reverb when the Fryette goes for only $800 doesn't make sense either.

Maybe if I happen to stumble across a used '68 Pro Reverb for a great price down the road...

The Pro Reverb stays clean until 4 to 4.5 on the volume dial. A lot of the available volume is wide open at that point. I used it last night at rehearsal and didn’t get past 3 to 3.5 (with drums, bass vocals and another guitar player) and did a show with it this past weekend at a pretty big venue (I’d say medium sized gig) and had the amp at 4 and folks at the back said I cut thru nicely (with the Alnico Cream) So the amp is plenty loud enough Of course you don’t have to run a Cream - I just wanted to stay in the Creamback family of speakers

The problem with speaker swaps is the "rabbit hole effect" where it can take several attempts (and a lot of money) before the right speaker is found. I got lucky with my Deluxe since the Eminence Alnico speaker that it came with is superb in that setup!

I'm glad the Celestion Alnico Cream works for you, but that's no guarantee it'll work for me, and I might find myself dreading the consequences if it didn't...

I wouldn't even trying to play out with this... But, small coffee shop type gig with no percussion, this would work great, from whisper to just enough.
