Congrats on completion of a great circuit. Any tone stack mods or standard 5e3?
That's a wicked build
I built it for around $650 total in parts. To me, it is better than a Princeton. I can get Blackface sounds out of the amp by manipulating the volumes and also get Tweed cleans, Tweed overdrive, big fat jazz box type cleans and the cleans can all be had at reasonable volumes. I play this amp in my apartment (clean only) and crank it up when I'm out at a friends or somewhere the volume is acceptable. Thank you!
To build your self around $700 depending on tubes, speakers, transformers. I build them for $1000 shipped.
Yes in fact and thank you. I tightened the bass a little bit by reducing the power tube coupling caps to .022 mfd. I also built it without the bypass capacitor on the cathode of the driver so that the volume sweep is much more manageable and cleans the amp up some, but is still capable of being downright filthy with my 57/62s in my Strat. I felt the extra gain was unnecessary. I DC Elevated the heaters, which combined with the push pull power stage makes it silent. I used a 10 inch speaker simply because the WGS veteran 10 is my favorite speaker and wanted to use it for this build. I have no complaints about the bottom end, it has plenty.
I’d love to hear it. Sounds it’s a great little amp for playing jazz if you’re into old school 40s/50s fat tones… and God knows I am!
Absolutely great job!
All the best,
