New Amp I Built Day? I assembled this kit from Mojotone this week, it's a clone of the Fender 5E3 Tweed Deluxe. This one went a lot faster than the Mod 102 I built previously, I think in part because I had prior experience with building that kit.

    Complete with some tones!!!

Nice..I am tempted to build one myself..

Got any distorted tones to post? :D (the ONLY reason I'd want one!)

Congrats. I sure love mine. I used a Celestion Gold tho. Lots of love for a 5e3.

    That is genuinely awesome!

I've been gassing for one of those amps for a while now. I go back and forth between saving up and buying either a clone or the Fender re-issue, or trying the Mojotone build. I'm just not sure I have the patience to build one. (That and the fact that I've never touched a soldering iron in my life makes me lean towards purchasing it complete.)

I thought I might be able to pull the trigger this year, but I've already spent a ton on gear and so it will probably be next year at the earliest.

    Enjoy the new amp!

When my wife leaves, I'll turn it up, and see what I can make it do. :)

I'm torn between putting a Celeston Blue Back, and an Eminence Lil Texas in there.

    Great build !

This kit looks great and I'm tempted... But I guess it's too loud for home use only...

I'm not very well versed at the whole audio recording thing, and I've only been playing the guitar for about two months so you'll have to excuse the playing.
This was recorded with a Shure SM57, through a Scarlet 2i2 (gen2) in Logic Pro X. I think the recording sounds quite a bit worse than the amp did, although the interface didn't claim to be clipping.

Before building the DIY Mod Kits "Mod 102" amplifier I hadn't ever built an amplifier before. It's not as hard as it looks. Just follow the instructions, take your time, and I'd wager anyone here could build one of these kits.

The Cannabis Rex, Texas Heat, and Red White and Blues were all on my radar.

I think I'm going to go with the Texas Heat (or the Lil Texas, which is an AlNiCo version of the Texas Heat.)

Just add a master volume control. I put one on my Princeton Reverb clone and it does exactly what I needed it to. Specifically a "Lar-Mar" type post phase inverter master volume that's transparent when all the way up.

I'll second that. I love the full-range non-scooped sound of the tweeds.

Looks like 5E3s are all the rage at the moment.
Mine will be finished soon, too. :)

    Nice!!
Mojotone are good kits according to the vast numbers of great reviews and recommendations.

I wonder, if you polled everybody who made a kit or scratch build of an amp....how close to 100% it would be that they'd done a 5E3?

I scratch built a '57 Princeton and a '65 Princeton Reverb. I got "simple single-ended" with the '57, and wanted spring reverb for the 6V6 amp so I chose the Princeton. Both are heads, and the tones vary greatly with the cabinets they're connected to.

The parts for a master volume, and power attenuator will be here by the time I get back from my vacation.
