Who do you think were solid/proficient/influential guitarists that possibly changed the landscape of music during the 70-80's but didn't achieve worldwide recognition.

This is not necessarily a spin-off of the usual "who's the best". I'm looking for something new....maybe something/someone I haven't heard or really never focused on.

One name that comes to my mind is Elliot Easton of the Cars--I always thought he did some cool stuff and had the chops to pull it off.

Rod Price (22 November 1947 – 22 March 2005) best known for his work with the rock band Foghat.
His lead guitar playing on the Black Cat Bones album Barbed Wire Sandwich is some of the greatest "feel" playing I have ever heard.

This one is regularly on repeat round my house.

    T. S. McPhee of Groundhogs. Great guitarist, great band, virtually unheard of here in the States...

I'd say John McGeoch but I don't think he's under the radar.
Bowie hogged most of the best guitarists during the 70s IMHO.

Otherwise - singer-guitarists like Wayne Hussey (the Mission), Adrian Borland (the Sound) and Stephen Fellows (Comsat Angels)
I'm not really into shredders or blues-rock.

But since I bet nobody else is going to name her - I'm going to go for Poison Ivy of the Cramps.

Walter Becker. Everyone knows Steely Dan, but few mention how great Walter was as a guitarist. RIP!
