I feel like I've been seeing a lot of people saying "neck" when referring to the fretboard. It kind of reminds me of people calling a magazine a "clip" or even "the chamber" as in "I have 16 in the chamber." It just feels like nails on a chalkboard! Is it really that important? Not at all. I'm just waiting for these contractors to leave my apartment, killing time.

Just wait until you you find out that Fender themselves designate them MN or RN or maple neck or rosewood neck…

I say all the time, haha. Just easier to say since there’s not many all rosewood necks out there.

Lord, I had no idea. I was always taught that the fretboard and neck are something different. The fretboard is a part of the neck, but not the neck. It just feels wrong!

I'm not really judging, I'm just stirring the pot. Lol

It's almost like how we refer to an artist's new release as an "album".

I've actually never heard them referred to by any other name. What would be correct, LP?

I call them albums as well and always have. It just seems a little misnamed when much of the music today is downloaded vs owning a physical "album".

I still say album too. Just can't bring myself to call them CD's or downloads.

The happy days long gone. Buying a new album, reading all the liner notes, rolling joints on the cover.

Agreed. And I've tried to do the latter on my iPhone and it just doesn't work as well! :(

I do it all the time. Probably because I'm too lazy to type fretboard when I can just type neck. :D

I remember seeing it written as "rosewood neck" in guitar magazines as far back as the '80s when I first started playing, and reading such publications. At first I was a bit pedantic about it as well, but I got over it. Probably because I'm too lazy to type fretbo...

I’m pretty sure they were always referred to as rosewood neck. It’s because of the new all rosewood necks that there’s this huge issue!!

    Two questions.

    1) Why did they make a rosewood neck?
    2) How soon after that photo was taken did they burn it then piss on the ashes?

I didn't realize how huge the issue was until just right now.

I actually agree, I love rosewood fretboards, but I think rosewood necks look awful. I've heard they stink too. But some people love them!

I of course know the difference but this is number 937,511 on my list of things that bother me. Maybe 937,512...I'd have to check.
