Need A Wiring Harness For Partscaster

hey everyone. Below is a list of parts I have for a partscaster build I am working on. Ive gathered a bunch of the parts like the neck and pickups over the years. In looking for a wiring harness, I was wondering what impact a solderless harness would have on the wound or long term longevity? I’m looking for standard 5 way switching. I don’t mind soldering but would rather buy the switch and pots wired up so it’s less work for me. Below is my part list

Part list:

Body - 2022 Eric Clapton Stratocaster Body Torino Red

Neck - 2017 American professional Strat - 9.5” radius, narrow tall frets, deep c profile

Tuners - Fender ClassicGear Tuners

Bridge - Fender vintage/narrow Strat assembly

Pickups - 2014 Fender CS HW Josefina Campos Fat 50s

Pickguard - 1 ply 8 hole Parchment

Plastic - parchment

Neckplate - Fender American Standard

I understand and support the need to reduce the amount of work in the build, but the amount of money these companies charge for a simple harness is just insane.
I think it shouldn’t really surpass $50 even with todays part prices…

Solderless connections oxidize eventually. In the most unexpected and unfortunate moment:)

MojoTone solderless. I've had their kits in several of my guitars and they work great and sound great. Easy to install and they make pickup changeouts simple and painless.

X2 on this, if you don't mind soldering then why not just find an hour or two and make yourself a really high quality harness yourself, you could achieve this with way less money. You have some really nice parts to build a Partscaster with, to me it makes sense to make your own. Otherwise if your main issue is thinking of ways to spend your money then you could go with any of the prewired/solder less kits they will achieve the same thing. But as stated if you know how to solder properly then that would be a reliable way to wire your strat.

I have four guitars with solderless kits and one has had a kit for over seven years. It sounds fine. I don't take my guitars to the beach, although I live within five miles of the Pacific, so oxidation doesn't seem to be an issue.

$81 plus tax. If you can't afford that, you can always pick up bottles and cans from the side of the road to make up the difference. The pots and caps are tested and matched so there are no issues.

I put them in this:

I spent a ton of money putting this partscaster together and an extra $30 wasn't something that was going to stop this project.

I have used Mojotone and Obsidian solderless harnesses with no issues.

The one I really like, is the least expensive.

The GFS Kwikplug makes swapping extremely easy.

I have them in two different Telecasters.

And I live in south Florida 5 minutes from the beach, and have had zero oxidation issues, even with the ungodly humidity here.

Tone Man has great wiring harnesses. They are expensive but high quality with clean soldering. They also sell kits that you can soldier yourself that are good quality components with reasonable costs.

I found something like this for $50. It looks like 250k CTS pots and a Fender switch. I know I can do it cheaper, but this seems easy and it's just a few leads to solder.

Why would you want any of your electronics wired in ‘solderless’? Solderless connections are failures waiting to happen. A hard wired soldered point to point electronics in your guitar helps to insure long term dependability.

Hi, I have used both MojoTone and Obsidian Wire and had good luck with both (as another poster stated, whichever is cheapest is the best!) Be warned, the speed and ease at which you can swap pickups could lead to increase in the number of pickups in your stable! 😉

I don't know much about solderless units but I've seen them available which is why I was asking about them. I don't mind soldering.

Today i wire up my own, but in my humble beginnings i went for finished packages.
Tried Emerson prewired for my Tele..
But what made me a bit awry is that they had used solid core wires for the jack.. They snapped off when i was to put the thing together.. grrrr..
I tried Hoagland customs for a 7-way for my Black Strat. Took the super-package with AuriCap capacitors which are expensive. It made the guitar sound rubbish. Bright, awful.. yuck.
Removed the Auri´s and put a simple ceramic disc cap in it and yanked the bleed. Sounds like boss now.
Today, its just the switch and a couple of wires left of that harness. The Volume pot maybe.. I changed the tone pots to audio taper. Not a fan of linear taper.
So prewired does not always gives you what you want & need :)

Sean at Gunstreet Wiring in Portland makes mine. superb. aside from solid quality, every unused switch pole is insulated, used ones are insulated AND color-coded. each harness comes with a personal note. this one has a trim pot, too - adjustable resistor. does yours? ;)
