I have a chance to purchase a strat. The neck serail number starts with an E which should mean it's an 84-87 MIJ stratocaster. Here are some other pics of it. I just want to make sure I dont get ripped off. New to the Japanese strats and it's hard to find info on then. 20201004_133617.jpg

    Thanks

It looks to be legit....it's more of an entry level model...still a nice guitar....

Neck has a '57 (maple board) feel and the body a '62 (11 screw P/G) look.....

100% legit ST-357 Standard, basswood body, ceramic pickups, worth about $400-450 US.

I see a RED FLAG though - these from that period should have a FULL SIZE big tremolo block, not later - this might be a later body or bridge.....

It's a low end model as previously stated...it's from about 1988....the 5 way switch is not original but everything else looks to be....except the block issue....

Start with a nice box of chocolates and follow-up with fresh flowers (they don't have to be roses...you hardly know this strat) :p

    BTW, welcome to the group.

While you're changing strings, whisper sweet nothing's into it's headstock. Give the old girl some compliments from time to time.:thumb:

Thanks. Why doesn't this one have a stamp on the body in the neck pocket?

I dunno about the guitar, but I need help dating a young heiress, preferably an only child with frail parents.

It looks like a later (mid 90s) ST362 standard body to me, pickups, scratchplate and bridge too.

Getting harder, can’t even take her to the pictures now! There may also be culture issues, don’t know much about Japanese etiquette.

Give it time before you undo her strap buttons or show her your truss rod.

And make sure to give her some of that special nut sauce that cost 15 bucks from time to time. :thumb:
